Yesterday a couple dozen racists demonstrators a degree or two to the right of Michelle Malkin assembled downtown to complain about the media coverage regarding the murders of Chris Newsom and Channon Christian.
Their gathering was matched by counter-protesters on the other side of the street. Apparently, it was a good day for outrage on W. Main Street.
From the TV news footage, it looked like there were more law enforcement personnel present than protesters (on both sides).
I wonder how much taxpayer money was wasted spent providing security for this small circus.

Look where Malkin gets her info--
Note that she gives a "hat tip" to "Clayton J."
This would be Clayton Jennings of Chattanooga, of "Europeans United for Tennessee," and a regular poster on the "Stormfront White Nationalist" Web site.

Sickening to use these kids to stir up hatred
This tragedy hit all of Knoxville hard, both black and white residents mourned the kids deaths and cringed at the details, no matter how skimpy they were, no matter how many facts were wrong. The only comfort we have comes from the fact that except for one the murderers came here from out of town.
It's disgraceful for this Neo-Nazi group to come here now to try to use the death of these kids as an excuse for their vile and dangerous agenda.
The police have made it clear this was not a racial or hate crime. The killers were hnting for victims and the kids just happened to be there.
Anyone who looks at this crime as an example of the totality of race relations here in Knoxville is all wrong. Many people in Knoxville have friends (and families) that do not consider race a barrier to friendship and love. Anyone who thinks the majority of people in the black community do not hold the same values they do, well, they just doesn't know many black people.
Why can't people let these poor kids rest in peace? It is beyond disgusting for outsiders to come to Knoxville to protest the fact that more wasn't made out of this case. Outsiders caused the crime, now you have these skinheaded geeks coming here to try to see if they can rile things up and get more dues paying devoted followers.
I'm not even sure anyone wants to know more details about this crime. Why would they? It breaks your heart to think this happened at all. I really can't understand why people like to watch ugly crime shows anyway. They make sad things pornographic. It's really disturbing to think anyone would want all the gory details of this event spread all over the TV and newspapers anway. That would be so sickening for the poor families involved.
The fact is--
Two innocent kids were murdered in a horrible manner
The killers were from out of town.
They have been arrested and hopefully justice will be done.
Why the need for anything more?
Unless your a racist, the fact that any of the participants were black or white had nothing to do with this crime.
Well said, Carole
The victims' families seem to agree with you too, by the way. This was a horrible crime as it was. White supremacists and their enablers - from Michelle Malkin to Charlie Daniels - should keep the hell out.
What is news ?
Local media said they were not planning on giving Linder any outlet to spew his garbage into our community. They did not cover his arrival or the plans for the protest.
I noticed last night one T.V. station broke ranks and gave the protest the opening story over several others. Linder received a lot of coverage he did not merit. I'm sure the media will say his getting arrested is the reason. His dysfunctional group of imported criminals do not deserve spit but they got what they wanted. He could not have bought better coverage.
Why top coverage? Why if covered at all just a brief mention?
The white bigots hate the white victims, too
The funny* thing about these out-of-town bigots is that they apparently hate the victims of this crime as much as they hate the perpetrators and, by extension it seems, all black people.
A quote by "racist, coward, and punk-ass-bitch" Hal Turner from the NS story on the protest:
"If these families had educated their children to be more race-conscious, maybe they'd still be alive," he said.
WTF? Did he blame this young couple for their own carjacking, rape and murder?
How exactly would "race-consciousness" on their part have prevented this terrible crime? Perhaps they could have avoided going to a neighborhood that probably has a slightly higher proportion of black people than Knoxville as a whole? But the neighborhood's demographics are irrevelant becuase, as Carole has so angrily and eloquently noted, the people who allegedly did this were not from here. The criminals could just as easily have been looking for carjacking victims in a lily-white part of town.
Haters, go home!
*And by "funny," I don't mean funny ha-ha, but funny in the sickest sense possible.
waste
According to the KNS story, another racist rally is planned for June 16. Brian, that gives you three weeks to convince KPD and KCSD and the mayors not to bother spending any more money protecting people and property from such a trivial threat.
It looked like a big
It looked like a big overkill on the security. Plus, isn't this kind of attention exactly the community response the racists want?
Brian A.
I'd rather be cycling.
guess so
Plus, isn't this kind of attention exactly the community response the racists want?
Why are you asking me? I'm willing to declare here and now that I lack the mind reading and prognostication skills so vital to modern policy making. Unlike Michelle Malkin, I have no idea what the mainstream media would have done if five whites had raped and murdered a black couple. If not for people with names like Rush and Bush, I'd have never known cave-dwelling Muslims marginalized in their own society were poised to turn America's churches into mosques. The whole guessing-what-others-think schtick is beyond me.
Here's how dumb I am. I think the best way to figure out what people who are not me believe is through language. Questions, answers, communication, understanding, that sort of thing. I guess I'm an old-fashioned guy.
A rally that got national coverage from Fox News and CNN, endorsement from a guy who once defeated the devil in a fiddle-playing contest and drew participants from Missouri, Maryland, New York and other states would seem to merit a significant police presence. Some might even argue that the rally yesterday remained circus-like only because the police kept control of the situation. I'm sure law enforcement will be happy to take advantage of your superior judgment next time, though, rather than learning after the fact that they overprepared.
if you read their blogs,
if you read their blogs, they absolutely did not get the kind of attention they were craving. They're gnashing their fangs in frustration that the turnout was so small and that so many locals -- almost all Caucasians -- showed up to mock them -- that's got them completely flummoxed. They expected Southern hospitality and got scorned instead.
Linder's Vanguard guys and the Stormfront guys are pointing fingers at each other for the failure of this event, and there's a lot of dissention in their ranks.
I think Knoxvillians handled it just right. I'm pretty proud of us, and was very happy to see the police presence.
On edit, here's a sample.
" Any White "leader" who could take this sort of slam-dunk cause, this sort of event, and turn it into another propaganda disaster against Whites, is either a fool, a negative personality, or an agent provacateur. Just a little bit of class was all that was required. Linder and his cronies will need to be shunned if White racialist cause is ever going to resonate with the White masses."
I doubt that the next demonstration will be any more PR-savvy, though, since it's going to be under the auspices of Ken Gregg, who, the last time I saw him, was heckling a Gay Pride parade while wearing a moonsuit and carrying a sign that said "Thank God for AIDS."
redneck fun
I saw one of the women getting ready for the rally. She was an older toothless woman who had on a confederate tube top that said "Rebel Chick." She had been cooling off in the fountains. They had the road closed around the rally. You could see the hundreds of cops gathering from the Krutch Park area. I don't know how or if the busses got through as it was right by their transfer station. It looked like to big of a mess that I didn't try to view the rally up close.
Good observaton, Stacey.
Good observaton, Stacey. They didn't do much to support the claim that the Confederate flag means "heritage," not hate.
Cost of the 1st Admendment
It is true we paid a big price. I was pretty mad taxpayers had to foot the bill for Linder and his minions.
Then I started thinking, this isn't about Linder. It is about Knoxville protecting the right of its own citizens to safely come exercise their right to speak out against Linder.
It was worth it. Linder has a right, and so do we. We heard him and he heard us. I think he got the point.
