A development company, D.R. Horton, is asking to rezone approximately 158 acres in South Knox County from Agricultural to Residential. It is reported they are planning to build 400 homes on this land.
Wow! There are no neighborhoods with that many homes any where near the proposed development. The property is on Tipton Station Road between Martin Mill Pike and Government Farm Road. Can you imagine the increase in traffic on those rural roads?
I do feel for the current residents in the area. They say the property used to be "a dynamite storage facility." In addition, it backs up to Stock Creek, "once considered biologically dead. Federal, state, and local dollars were spent to remove toxins from the watershed and restore its vitality." "They can’t because of the flood zone at Stock Creek. So, they are going to push all the density on the front end and put almost 400 homes here."
It's hard to prevent development and growth. I hope they are successful. Maybe they could at least reduce the number of homes.
Check out the KGIS map. Is it rural or what?

The Knoxville-Knox County
The Knoxville-Knox County Planning Commission approved rezoning for the D.R. Horton development on the south side of Tipton State Road, east of Lowland Lane. Development plans call for 342 single-family residential lots across nearly 86 acres.
Plans were approved on the conditions that developers conduct an additional environmental study and make improvements to the intersection of Tipton Station Road and W. Martin Mill Pike.
