I noted with some interest and admiration the recent "coyote blogging" picture. Here in Kansas coytes are viewed with a somewhat jaundiced eye. They can be a real pest. Many hunt them for sport. The pictures are of a custom made "coyote chaser" Basically, it's an old truck (perferably 4W drive) cut down to make it lighter and, besides, it doesn't have to look nice anyway. They're often equipped with a power winch (in case you get stuck) a compartment for hauling a dog ot two, and, of course, a gun rack (or two).
At one time in Kansas there was bounty paid for coyotes. That is long past. Today the coyote population in held in check through the use of poisons (closely controlled to make sure only coyotes are the victims - this can be difficult at times which why only the state does it and only if conditions are that dire) and sport hunting.
These pictures were taken in the wee hours of the morning just before dawn a few days ago. The owner was taking it out for it's maiden excursion.
