Apparently, he needs to run more attack ads:
Republican Senate nominee Bob Corker said today he loaned his campaign another two (m) million for the closing week of his campaign.
Corker said the donation was to offset what he described as big spending by the national Democratic Party for his opponent U-S Representative Harold Ford Junior.
. . .
According to financial disclosures filed last week, Corker's campaign has spent over 14 (m) million, beating the previous state record of eleven (m) million. Ford has spent over ten (m) million.
Hmm. Corker needs $16 million to keep pace with big-spending Ford's $10 million. Must be Republican math.

That would be just about 1/2 of what was needed to finish the new Hardin Valley Cluster@#&! High School, but

The problem is, it's too late for Ford to raise the "millionaire clause" bonus and buy more ad time or signs or whatever. Nicely played by Corker. He's probably got ad agencies and printers holding $2 million worth of invoices for buys from two weeks ago.

There are only 3 1/2 business days left before the polls open. He's got 2 1/2 days before the weekend. I'm guessing the media outlets don't do business on the weekend, and I don't know how their scheduling works but I'm guessing that 2 1/2 days out they are probably booked up anyway except at 3 AM.
Even then, first he has to raise the money. I guess he could go back to his maxed-out Hollywood and NY connections and raise some more pretty quick. But then he has to place the ads, buy the space, etc. And its way too late to have any more signs or pamphlets printed.
That's just my thinking, but I don't know how these things work so I could be wrong.

...is a lifetime in a campaign like this. I suspect the Ford camp has anticipated this and have prepared, just as the Korker Krew has.

I believe political ads must be offered, but law, at the lowest rate for the time slot and the station must make room, even to the point of bumping paying custormers. In a busy slot, stations hate these ads because they could be making more money selling to someone else. The upside is the campaigns buy a lot of airtime.

Corker must be expecting a huge return on his investment. He does have a record of profiting nicely from public office.

The Ford campaign had heard rumors Corker was going to write the check. You know Corker wouldn't have done it if he didn't have internals that indicated a problem though...

Ford can raise the money, then spend it on GOTV - which is what he ought to do anyway. Anyone following the news could have anticipated this...and Corky still thinks he needs Abramoff's cronies to call everyone in the state. Go figure.
