Rep. Jimmy Duncan, along with seven other Republican members of Congress, sent Bush a letter opposing escalation of the war in Iraq. I guess that makes him a "surrenderist" or "retreatist" or whatever the Fox News Approved term of the day is.

I called his office earlier today to ask about his position on the "surge" and the Iran consulate take-over. He's against both but wants more info on the Iran situation.
There will be an op-ed in tomorrow's Tennessean by Duncan. Why not the Knox News Sentinel?
He also voted for the minimum wage hike. Boy, he's on a roll. Don't think it will last though.
I mentioned the plan for the US oil companies to take over the Iraq oil industry and keep 75% of profits. I was talking to Jonathan Griswold and he didn't know too much about this plan. I said they should give the profits to the American people to pay us back for the war costs and only let the oil companies keep a smaller part. He seem to like that idea better. (I'm sure this was not an official comment so take with a grain of salt.)

...I said they should give the profits to the American people to pay us back for the war costs and only let the oil companies keep a smaller part.
...but, it is Iraq's oil, and the Iraqis didn't ask us to invade, so why should they have to pay for it. I think the Oil companies, Cheney's Haliburton and Bush senior's Carlyle Group, are the only people who are profiting from this invasion, so let them pay for it. I wouldn't be surprised if they haven't already pumped 75% of the oil out anyway.

You're right
My point was, that if anyone is going to get the profits besides the Iraqi's, then it should be the American people and not the oil companies.
And as far as the usual suspects, Haliburton, Carlyle, etc profiting from the war, what it means is that Iran and Syria can't be far behind.
Be a blessing to someone today.

Sorry for the misunderstanding!
As far as Duncan, I don't know if anyone here has read his latest newsletter, but he hammered the Bush administration on many topics. He touched on the Constitution being compromised, nation building, corporate profiting from the war, the uniting of Canada, US and Mexico, and even putting microchips in cattle. I am very impressed with the fact that he is being so vocal about his dissatisfaction of this administration. Now if only the rest of the politicians would follow his lead on many of these matters, but there needs to be action and not just talk, but at least he and many others seem to be taking the first step. I just hope it is not to late.
