Most of us are aware by now that Mr. Bush has declassified the NIE report and accused his political opponents of an attempt to "create confusion in the minds of the American people" with the notion that his Iraq war has become a recruiting poster for al Qaeda.
ABC News is reporting that he is saving us from more confusion by blocking release of a report that suggests a link between global warming and the strength and frequency of hurricanes.
Don't you feel safer knowing there is a benign father figure in Washington protecting us from such alarmist propaganda? I know I do, although I wonder what other confusing information he is hiding from us.

Well, hurricanes this year were unusually infrequent and mild. Thanks, global warming!
Or does global warming only cause bad weather?
And for anyone who's curious, I'm convinced global warming has happened. I'm not convinced it's caused by human activity or even primarily caused by ditto - maybe it is, maybe it isn't. But I sure enjoy making fun of global warming gnostics who are 100% positive about it.
And yeah, I think Bush should stay the hell out of the way of publishing scientific reports. What's in the report might be true or it might not, but the truth of the matter will eventually come to be known through the long process of scientific questioning. Nature will not be fooled.

Abstract
We study, by using a wavelet decomposition methodology, the solar signature on global surface temperature data using the ACRIM total solar irradiance satellite composite by Willson and Mordvinov. These data present a +0.047%/decade trend between minima during solar cycles 21–23 (1980–2002). We estimate that the ACRIM upward trend might have minimally contributed ∼10–30% of the global surface temperature warming over the period 1980–2002.

You guys likely agree that
You guys likely agree that warming trends are caused by a mixture of solar and anthropogenic factors. Don't you?
It's hot, but it's output
It's hot, but it's output varies slightly, and it's currently on an upswing. Over the past 600k years, variation in solar output correlates strongly with variation in atmospheric CO2, so some of the current CO2 increase is attributable to the Sun. On the other hand, never in those 600k years have CO2 levels gotten as high as they are right now, so anthropogenic emissions are clearly significant, even dominant, in accounting for the observed change in atmospheric composition.
