Not only will the deep red majority in Nashville get to appoint a new Secretary of State, Treasurer and Comptroller but on a local level I believe that the County Elections Administrators will also be replaced with republicans.
If this has been discussed before just point me to the thread and I will delete this.

Nope, hasn't been discussed,
Nope, hasn't been discussed, and it's a good point. I heard Susan Williams is angling for Administrator of Elections in Knox Co.
Reminds me of this quote from the RS Obama Interview:
Q: Is there anything you can do before the fact to keep the vote from being tampered with?
A: Well, in Ohio the thing we did was make sure there was a Democratic secretary of state.
Election Commissions
The fact is the state system for control of election commissions is flawed. Local preference/politics have nothing to do with it. 5 Commissioners per county with three appointed by the party that controls the state house. The Democrats put the rule in place under McWherter as Speaker, I believe-but I could be wrong about that. A county may be almost all Republicans, but the Democrats controlled the Election Commission. Now a county could be strongly Democrat but Republicans will have control. Doesn't seem like it should be all of one or the other statewide.
Appointments are made April 1 of odd-numbered years, so come next April the shift will happen statewide.
United States Attorney
On a brighter note we get three new United States Attorneys in TN, yes? Who do you suppose those might be? Tuke for one-all along I felt like he was running for an Obama appointment and not for the US Senate seat. Who might get the eastern TN appointment?
I've been meaning to post on
I've been meaning to post on this, because it means that Knox County may lose Greg Mackay. Greg has done a tremendous job, and if the Republicans have any sense they will keep him.
I'm not holding my breath.
bummer
We should all stop talking about how much we like him, all the good things he's done for early/convenience voting and open government, and instead start loudly complaining on the KNS, statesman, and other websites about what a low down, devious, gun-toting, terrorist-killing, Rovian, Palin-loving, in the pocket of the GOP bootlicker he is.[sarcasm tag ON] But that's probably not the kind of help he needs from us.
Seriously though, perhaps the TN GOP will be impressed by Greg's stedfast refusal to acknowledge the intimidation involved with making a potential new voter sign a statement that says they may go to jail and owe a 3k$ fine if they are not "qualified" to "apply to vote early."
There's probably a place for him in a Haslam or Rogero administration.

Ok, I know you're pissed
Ok, I know you're pissed about signing that statement, but you also probably don't have any idea what a mess the EC office was before Greg's tenure. He has brought badly needed professionalism to the office. He's consistently made choices that both protect the integrity of the electoral process and moved procedures into the 21st century.
It will be Knox County's loss if he is replaced.
Did you miss the sarcasm tag?
And I do remember the EC before Mackay. It sucked.
Regardless, looks like he's safe till 2011.
