As is being noted, this is turning into an election of personalities. It has moved away from issues and as a result, it is difficult to justify a campaign sign and the potential abuse and egging that may come with it.

It's not like I can walk over to my neighbor and say, "Well, I agree with Hillary's well publicized position on DAPL." "or "I agree that the minimum wage should be whatever Hillary says it should be." or "Hillary's specific plan for improvements to the ACA will improve these specific problems."

The point is this. Hillary's staff is doing a shitty job of defining her vision for America and laying out her exact positions. As a result, those people drawn to a fifteen dollar an hour minimum wage are crossing over to go with the guy getting rid of the Mexicans they are competing with in the job market.

Ironically, the only person Clinton is taking votes from right now is Jill Stein. That is to be expected. It was a brutal primary, and hardcore Sanders supporters took an amazing amount of abuse for simply wanting our nation to be a better place for all people regardless of race, creed, color, sexual orientation, economic status, or health. We weren't and aren't against Hillary. We are for a vision of a better America. But we are tired, we are beat down and we haven't spent the last year learning Hillary's positions. We have been busying trying to define what America can become under a progressive agenda. The ball was passed to Hillary's supporters at the convention and they are dropping it.

Honestly, I couldn't tell you the specifics of any of Hillary's positions and I read the paper and the local progressive blog every day. And frankly, based on the abuse I took for simply loving my country and dedicating myself to trying to support a candidate I felt gave us the most hope for a better tomorrow, I really don't feel like it's my duty or obligation to educate the masses as to the specifics of Hillary's positions. And neither, apparently, does anyone else. What, exactly does she stand for? What will America be like under a Clinton administration? Why aren't her people educating themselves as to the specifics of her campaign and pounding the issues in Trumps face every day, instead of merely making fun of his hair and make-up? Right now, she's probably going to get my vote based on blind faith and the fact that she's sane. As a voter and citizen, don't I deserve more than that?

So no, she's not getting my public support. She will likely get my vote, but it's up to those who got her nominated to get her elected. If indeed her nomination was the result of fraud and voter manipulation then she has work to do. The swing votes are there for the taking, but they're not necessarily who you might think they may be.

Finally the threat of violence does extend to all who publicly support Clinton. That is the point of what Trump is doing. The irony is this; Trump's public support, at least in this town, is not all that great either. Just as I don't want my family exposed to the potential violence and ostracization that would accompany a Clinton sign, it appears that most republications don't want to acknowledge publicly that they are indeed, idiots.

Edit: I don't buy the Nadar effect theory and I think this election is a totally different animal, but I agree with this message and feel like someone has got to start pushing the Clinton campaign with the same sort of passion the brought Sanders from nowhere to the edge of the nomination. I've had a Hillary yard sign for at least three weeks. I had an Obama sign in 2008 and 2012. Never had a problem.
For those who are a little freaked out by recent polls, there's regular phone banking going on for Clinton in Knoxville at the Democratic headquarters. Most of it is directed toward North Carolina.

If she loses this election I will blame the media, who have for the most part treated this election like one big farcical reality show with increased ratings and sales as their primary goal. They have almost completely abandoned their journalistic responsibility to inform the voters about serious issues facing this country and major differences between the candidates. On a cable news program the other day four talking heads sat around wondering why polls showed that so many people thought Clinton was more dishonest than Trump when all hard evidence demonstrated the reverse was true. Lacking all insight, the boneheads decided to blame Clinton, never once considering the role they've played.

We have a Clinton yard sign up for a month and have given some to several neighbors. No problems here in North Hills. I have Obama and Democratic stickers all over my bumper and the only that got "damaged" was someone tried to scratch off the Obamacare one, but it was so resilient, it did not budge and is still there despite the repeated effort to remove it.

Well, I have never been afraid of the bullies who threaten and pretend they own the playground...just like the older ladies in 2008 and 2012, if someone stole or trashed their Obama signs, they would run back to Headquarters and ask for more ! Trump's campaign is BASED on vague threats of guns and violence. And lately he has hinted that 'the killing of Clinton might be possible'. I am not surprised that more GOPs here don't have Trump Signs displayed. Life long Republicans must be embarrassed with Trump as their candidate. He has insulted Veterans (like my daughter, her father and her uncle), women, immigrants, Hispanics, especially from Mexico, Muslims, refugees, AND Americans with physical disabilities.

As for local area support for Hillary, we have SEVERAL groups working for Hillary here, and more are formed each week. The newest is being created as the "African Americans for Hillary in Knoxville.I can connect you as this group is being formed here in my community. The reason some don't know what "Hillary Stands For" are those who do not have internet, do not listen to radio like NPR, watch Channels that attempt to promote TRUTH and not more absurd lies. So if any of you want or need "HILLARY signs or gear, it is available several locations here, especially the official Hillary Campaign Headquarters, 311 Morgan St....upstairs !

I say show your support for Hillary every way ya can. This election is too important not to. If you live where a sign is road visible, put one up. If you have a car, get a sticker for it. Wear a button. I'll check the Dem HDQTRS this week and see if there's a t-shirt. Now's the time TO SAY IT LOUD, I'M AN HRC SUPPORTER AND I'M PROUD (luvs me some James Brown tunes).

I find it ironic that the media seems to be the whipping boy in this thread, yet Scott Barker seems to be the only person associated with the 4th estate in this town that understands what's going on in this election.

I would submit that Barack Obama changed the very nature of how media works in elections in 2008 by his use of the internet, Trump paved new ground by turning news into a circus with absolutely no basis in reality, a circus totally dedicated to the premise that repetition is the key to advertising and indoctrination and that Hillary, nor her supporters, understand how this modern media works.

Thoughtful, intelligent voters will trend to candidates of their own kind. Elections are determined by the ignorant and uninformed, based on the direction their herd is running.

With the internet, WE THE CITIZENS, are the media. We control the message. If Hillary loses, it's on her for not mobilizing her followers.

You can't ask a newspaper editor for more than to be treated honestly and fairly on the editorial page. We have that in Knoxville. If you want the content to change, get to work. Start writing and make it sensible and worth both printing and reading.

You can get a yard sign at Democratic headquarters on 311 Morgan St. They're asking for a $5 donation. I don't know if they have a phone number you can call.

Tennessee is Trump country. Neither candidate will put any time, effort or money in their campaign in this state. If you are not voting for Trump, you might as well go fishing on election day as far as the presidential election is concerned.

I've noticed no one in our neighborhood has yet to put up Trump signs, even those people that had put up Romney and McCain signs in the past. I have seen a few Trump signs in Blount County but probably no more than Clinton signs. There are a couple of residents in our neighborhood that have Trump stickers on their cars. The residents are new to the neighborhood, not the previous Republican nominee supporters.
