We are told that Clay Crownover of Farragut is considering a run for House District 14 as a Democrat to replace Ryan Haynes who vacated the seat to take over as TNGOP chair.

Crownover would be a high quality candidate for local Democrats and a formidable opponent. He is well connected, has a strong resume, and has a good background on environmental and energy issues. He is apparently being urged to run by folks in his district.

Here's his bio...

As of today, the only candidate who has picked up a petition is Republican Karen Carson, currently a Knox Co. School Board member. The qualifying deadline is noon Thursday, July 2nd.

Clay is a great guy, would make for a great Democratic candidate, but it is not happening.

I hope he runs

Clay should be encouraged to run. We need to start to expand our democratic footprint to west knoxville, and this is a good opportunity to do this. How can we contact him to get him to do this?

Expand?

With TengascoJoe going to the iron bar hotel there isn't any foot whatsoever

It appears that Clay

It appears that Clay Crownover is declining to run. In a series of tweets just now, he issued the following statement (concatenated from multiple tweets):

@ClayCrownover

I appreciate everyone's support and encouragement the past few weeks, especially the words of encouragement from @VoteGloriaJ

I would be lying if I didn't say I was shocked and humbled by it.

That being said, right now I am focused on playing a larger part in fighting for public education, quality healthcare and for public policies that affect regular people on a daily basis.

Our Congress and legislature is extremely distracted by special interests and an archaic political philosophy and people need to stand up and let them know.

There will be another time for me. Again, you have no idea how much I appreciate everyone's support & faith in me.
