City Council Fundraising Scorecard

They haven't raised as much money as the gubernatorial candidates (even Ward Cammack), but their election is only a few weeks away. So, I figure they deserve some attention, too.

I've posted some information about the first financial disclosures of this year's city council candidates over at No Silence Here.

Update: Actually, the 14 candidates combined do have more cash on hand than Ward Cammack reports. So, I guess that's something.

Duane Grieve has raised over $10K since July 1st 2009 just look at page 8 it shows a balance of $15,100.

Yes, that seemed like an impressive bit of fundraising.

The trick for me was to write up a synopsis that allowed me to compare fundraising efforts on an "apples to apples" basis. Since most of the candidates used the state's reporting cycle (April 1-June 30) rather than reporting data up through the city's reporting cycle that ended July 15, I decided to focus on numbers only up to June 30, while filing away the July data for separate discussion. I had hoped to post a follow-up addressing the data from the few candidates who did provide July 1-15 details yesterday, but had to delay that until later today. The KNS internet folks were porting the blogs over to new servers most of yesterday and we were asked to refrain from blogging until they finished. It looks like things are back to normal this morning, so I'll work on getting the follow-up uploaded later this morning.

Once we get to the next filing deadline (August 15), I think the various candidate statements will be more uniform in the dates reported.

Abbas started the state quarterly filing cycle (April 1) with $1897 (again, rounding up) on hand from earlier reports. He raised $3301 for the second quarter (April-June) with expenses of $4536 leaving him with about $662 cash in hand to carry over to the next reporting cycle.

According to the 2nd quarter state filing statement, he had $344 in non-itemized expenses under $100 with individual vendors (identified as "checks," "supplies," and "advertising").

Looking at the itemized expenses, it looks like the biggest expenses are postal related ($1385 for postage from USPS and another $1106 to National Mail Room in Powell). Along the way he also reports another $1095 +/- expenses for various supplies and campaign items ranging from office supplies, business cards, lapel stickers, bumper stickers, and yard signs. Additional funds were used during that period for supplies and food related to his campaign kick-off picnic.
