WBIR: According to the Knox County Health Department, a federal response team of officials with the CDC and the Office of the Assistant Secretary for Preparedness and Response raised the red flag and have declared Knox County a hot spot for the virus. The two agencies came to offer assistance Wednesday and Thursday as the number of COVID-19 cases, hospitalizations and deaths continue to surge to higher levels locally.

The Master Plan
Looks like Glenn Jacobs has fixed one of his early priorities of getting the hospital business back to capacity. May God have mercy on our county.
But masks, we don’t need no stinking masks.
Jacobs is not mayor of the
Jacobs is not mayor of the city. If you look at the Covid map, the high numbers of cases are center around the corporate limits of the city. Moving away from the city the number of cases drop. Farragut is a high density area, but the numbers are low compared to most areas inside the city.
Fixed.

Thanks.
Plenty of people in the 3 zip
Plenty of people in the 3 zip codes with the highest number of cases are in the county. From the given data you cannot know if they live in the city or county. In addition, people that live in the county go to businesses in the city to shop, drink alcohol, eat at restaurants.
Having said that it may be possible that higher density population in the city would indicate higher number of cases. Having said that, just because you reside in the county doesn't mean you should not be careful.

(in reply to bizgrrl)
The high number of cases by zip code may reflect on the residents. Some of the zip codes with lower cases also have a high density of population such as Farragut and Halls. I have noticed that most of the older citizens have been wearing masks for some time, while younger citizens are ignoring the mask requirement. I said noting about not wearing a mask if you live in a county zip code with a low number cases. Anyone know what the age breakdown is between the high zip codes and low codes?
Kudos to Comcast. Went there
Kudos to Comcast. Went there to drop off a cable box. They wore masks. They had someone outside to handle the transaction. They limited the number of people in the store.
Great service.
Davidson county has less than
Davidson county has less than twice the population of Knox county and about 10x the number of COVID cases. Shelby County has a little more than twice the population of Knox County and again around 10x more cases. Hamilton county has about 100k fewer people and twice the number of cases as Knox County.
That Jacobs guy sure is doing a lousy job.
What did Jacobs do to protect
(in reply to Knoxoasis)
What did Jacobs do to protect citizens from the coronavirus?
More than the mayors of
More than the mayors of Davidson and Shelby apparently, if the spread is dependent on government action or inaction. It is possible, however, that the disease spreads more or less without regard to government policy, but then that wouldn’t give the satisfaction of partisan blame throwing.
Davidson and Shelby Counties
(in reply to Knoxoasis)
Davidson and Shelby Counties have international airports. They started getting COVID cases early and that's probably why.
All I've heard Jacobs do is whine about the mask mandate. If he's actually doing something these days, please let me know exactly what.
Nihilism is not productive
(in reply to Knoxoasis)
Who believes the virus is playing party politics? And certainly you can't believe that government policy has no effect on the spread. You're taking a small amount of uncorrelated data and drawing the dumbest conclusions. Or just pretending that science doesn't matter and actions have no consequences. Or it's you who just wants to play Trumpian politics.
Maybe look at other countries' policy responses and their virus data weeks out? Same at the state level, but it starts to get complicated for the reasons already stated: there are other factors.
7/11/20 Concert at the Cove in Concord
Does anyone have pictures from last nights events? We drove by around sixish, saw a full parking lot, about half the crowd utilizing social distancing, couldn't tell much about masks from the road. Overflow parking options had not been needed at this point. Let's cross our fingers and hope this won't turn out to be a super-spreader event.
I can't believe Mayor Jacobs tried to pull this of without a plea for mask usage.
Knox County is up to 13
Knox County is up to 13 deaths!
Very sad. I think 2 of them
(in reply to Joe328)
Very sad.
I think 2 of them are in the 45-65 age group, 1 in the 75+.
Can't confirm.
Another death in the 45-65
(in reply to bizgrrl)
Another death in the 45-65 age group.
Zip Codes don't tell the story
This may have been raised in other comments, but the zip codes only say where people live. It does not tell us anything about where they contracted Covid 19. If they got it at home the zip codes tells you something, but we don't know that. Does anyone know how contact tracing is going? How many cases are from unknown origin?
