My personal opinion is that the decline of newspapers is due to their own lousy work in fulfilling their Constitutional duty to keep the electorate informed.
WASHINGTON - By themselves, the thousands of recently unearthed e-mails that call into question scientific data about global climate change are not enough to make a skeptic out of U.S. Sen. Lamar Alexander.
There aren't "thousands" of emails in the first place, they were stolen in the second place, and this entire so called scandal is manufactured out of false cloth most importantly of all. Why isn't THAT the story here?
The number of stolen scientific emails that contradict global warming is exactly ZERO. The number of national news stories that said there were has topped 275. 276 including today's KNS failure of will, courage, and journalism. Come on guys...If we want space aliens we'll go to the grocery store. Nothing in your story points out that "climategate" doesn't exist except as a dangerous and deadly stunt by paid media operatives.

You've really got to feel
You've really got to feel for a public official in this situation.
Some schmuck reporter calls for a soundbite on a matter that is not only scientifically complex but has be repeatedly bifurcated into multiple streams of bullshit by a dedicated corps of spinmeisters and amplified by an army of braindead internet zombies.
The reporter, who obviously knows less about the subject than the average squirrel, boils it all down to "emails call into question the scientific data." You know it would take hours to straighten out the lazy fucknozzle, but you also know that anything more than a few sentences will be selectively quoted and twisted as badly or worse than the emails.
No wonder no sane person wants to be in politics.
My complaint is not with the
My complaint is not with the lousy reporter who doesn't have a clue about the subject. It is with the newspaper that sends a lousy reporter out to do a job and then prints obviously incorrect drivel under the guise of reporting. Any editor who lets a piece like that get through is either deeply ignorant himself or maliciously intent on misrepresenting the truth to his public.

No doubt. But I would wager Michael Collins is given - by someone at a level above the KNS - a very wide berth on what he writes about and how he writes it.

Stolen emails - must
Stolen emails - must discredit them like the stolen Pentagon Papers were stolen or say untold how many classified leaks the NYTs has published. Yes no scandle from the emails when the "leading" climatologist conspire to delete data so it can't be released through FOI requests.
And the real scandal is not the emails. Independent analysis of the raw data that was released shows how warming has been manufactured (fudged) to support the desired outcome.
It is becoming apparent that the data was not stolen, but was leaked by Briffa or some other whistle blower within CRU
Do some research rather than blindly following your leaders
No, RD, YOU do some research and correct your statement
These are researcher's personal emails that were stolen and we are seeing an odd conspiracy emerge. Want to know the truth about those mails? They don't show anything whatsoever except one method of reconciling different parts of the climate record.
We on this planet are headed for a climate train wreck. We can make it better or worse but we have to act now in a big way. Climate change deniers are asking the rest of us to make a choice between some people losing some money in the short term and a lot of people losing their homes and lives in the long run. It's a clear moral choice.
Independent analysis of the
Independent analysis of the raw data that was released shows how warming has been manufactured (fudged) to support the desired outcome.
No, not really. That's the spin put on it by well paid industry hacks, but it's not true.
The data and models at the center of this manufactured crisis are not part of the core science showing carbon emissions are a threat. It's basic chemistry and physics that proves carbon gases trap heat and acidify seawater. We have good observational data for recent decades that clearly shows the oceans are warming and growing more acidic. This data comes from sophisticated modern equipment and is not in question.
The data you are talking about comes from earlier decades, when we had approximate human records or no direct recordings at all. Historical data always needs massaging, just like fossils need to be reconstructed from fragments.
Your evidence for fraud is meager, and your conclusions are completely misaligned with the context.

Totally correct.
And RedDog, the fudging is between your legs, not climate science.
