The state has awarded Haslam pals JLL a huge outsourcing contract to take over faciliies management at campuses statewide. It's not clear from the article what servces are included.

The article does say that JLL is sub-contracting with two companies, one for janitorial services and another for landscaping services.

Maybe someone can explain the math of how adding multiple extra layers of for-profit corporations is supposed to save money?

A reader writes to wonder if the companies sub-contracting for JLL are trained on various regulations with regard to research laboratories and such (hazmat/osha). The reader says there are a lot of dangerous chemicals and hazardous materials.

Also, the reader wonders if they are trained on ADA/Rehab/NIH/NSF regs on protection of human and animal subjects. Apparently there is a lot of sensitive and private information locked away in research centers. I'm guessing HIPAA would apply, too.

Good questions! If Tennessee had any journalists still working for big media they should ask.

Journalists.

Fear not. They're aggressively reporting the aftermath of the Gatlinburg fires.
