HB3029 by Campfield creates a "tax-me-more fund" in the general fund for voluntary donations by taxpayers; all funds in such account are earmarked for abortion prevention:
Recognizing that there are individuals and entities who believe they are undertaxed and who advocate a greater tax burden for Tennesseans, it is hereby declared the policy of the state of Tennessee to provide these individuals and entities an opportunity to contribute more to state government. In furtherance of this policy, there is hereby established within the general fund a separate account to be known as the "Tax-Me-More Account".
Knoxville Republicans should be ashamed for sending this guy over there to turn the Tennessee House of Representatives into Romper Room when the state has serious business to conduct.

Great idea, Stacey
All funds in the Tax-me-more account shall be
allotted solely for the prevention of abortion and for alternatives to abortion.
Cool, like free birth control and vasectomies for low-income families? Comprehensive sex education in public schools? Whom do I write the check to?
Probably not what Stacey X has in mind.
I'll skip the middle man and send a check here instead.
Planned Parenthood Silent Auction Every Fall
By the way, PP has a wonderful charity auction every fall, a great opportunity to get some early holiday shopping in while helping the organization. You can get some nice ceramic art pieces, prints, game tickets, jewelry, gift basket collections, and some other very neat items. And it's a fine evening out, too. I highly recommend the event to anyone who wants to support the organization.
Oh, and another thing
I hate to correct our fine host here, but to say "Campfield is a clown, again" implies that Stacey X did, at some point, stop behaving like a clown and has now resumed that behavior.
I don't believe that's true.
Stacey was a clown, remains a clown, and will continue to be a clown. The question is whether the voters of his district will continue to tolerate his asinine representation of them in the Tennessee Legislature.
Let's hope not.
The Whole Picture
You know, it's too bad Campfield doesn't look at the whole picture. Right now, he's trying to reduce abortions and make it illegal for schools to tell kids about homosexuality.
And yet, no gay folks every got their same-sex partners pregnant. No oops pregnancies, many fewer abortions.
You'd think he'd be advocating that people not have sex until they're ready to have children, but, if they must, to only have gay sex.
Ha ha.
Good idea, Aunt B.
That's the sort of holistic thinking of which Campfield is clearly incapable.
Every other type of thinking, too, I'd imagine.
Yeah, Shame on Tennessee Republicans...
It's just unbelievable that Tennessee Republicans would perform such blatant wastes of time.
If only they could be like the Democrats in Congress and use weeks of legislative time and hundreds of thousands of taxpayer dollars on important topics like...
Baseball.
Or perhaps debate other topics that the Democrats in the General Assembly thought important last year, like...
Al Gore and Justin Timberlake.
If only they could be like
If only they could be like the Democrats in Congress and use weeks of legislative time and hundreds of thousands of taxpayer dollars on important topics like...Baseball.
Steroids in baseball was made a priority issue by George W. Bush during a State of the Union address during which he was desperate to talk about anything but the torture, abuse and killing of prisoners in his dishonest and perverse war.
Your response to these charges against Campfield only demonstrates how primitive the Republican party has become. Campfield is not being attacked because he is a Republican; he is being attacked because he is a closed-minded ass. When you defend him on partisan grounds, you imply that his behavior is acceptable. By using partisanship to avoid issues, Republicans have defined their party as home to not just closed-minded asses, but liars, war profiteers, thugs, fundamentalist wackos and belligerent know-nothings.
Best as I can tell, there is no crime, ethical lapse or failure profound enough to crack Republican loyalty. Sneaking a gay prostitute into the White House regularly over the course of a year was no problem for Republicans. The party has become so tribal it repels integrity and intelligence, leaving gaping voids for morons like Campfield and W to fill.

Whoa, now...
Randy -
I'm not defending Stacey. Not in the least. I'm merely pointing out that both government at both the state and federal levels - in bodies controlled by both parties - are wasting their time and our money on worthless pursuits. Stacey is a lightning rod over here, I know, but there is plenty of criticism to go around.
As for the "proclamations," those that I mentioned stretched over several days of the legislative calendar. Think of how many budget matters could have been addressed in that time that directly impact us all.
Cheers,
Rob
For we out of towners: What
For we out of towners: What are the demographics of Campfield's district, such that he gets away with this foolishness? What are the odds we may be able to field someone to beat him? I know we've had a couple of great candidates...what would it take to show him the door?
Well...
I don't know about the demographics of his district, but we nearly moved into it just recently. All I can say is if he had shown up at my door proclaiming such foolishness, he'd have been too busy picking up his teeth to campaign much at all.
