It's a shame there are
It's a shame there are troubled people in the world. I hope the people who got shot are not seriously wounded.
One victim has died. All
One victim has died. All three victims were employees and female. The shooter was neither an employee or ex-employee.
Just too terrible
Just too terrible. Thoughts and prayers with the victims and their families.
What the heck is wrong with this town?
In the last couple of years we have a church shooting, two school shootings, and now a shooting outside a hospital.
Do we have more than our share of crazy people? Is our culture just too violent?
I'm not going to sleep very well tonight.
It's pretty sad that my first
It's pretty sad that my first reaction to this horrific event was some nut is trying to make a statement about the passage of the HCR bill.
Do we make it just a little
Do we make it just a little too easy to get a gun?
too easy to get a gun? Or too
too easy to get a gun?
Or too hard to get health care, if not simply food and shelter. This sort of behavior stems from powerlessness and alienation, and restricting access to guns addresses neither problem.
The real problem here is the selfish, sanctimonious and short-sighted attitude so prevalent in the recent discussions about the Ten-Year Plan and supportive housing.
I can see your point. Mental
I can see your point. Mental health services are pretty awful here in TN. Very little affordable supportive housing for the mentally ill. Seems like most people in need get some meds and are sent on their way.
That may have been the story with Ibssa:
(link...)
Regardless, in any foreseeable upgrade to our mental health services this guy would probably be considered a low priority for services due to the fact that he had a job, and an apartment. It's also not clear if this guy would have ever cooperated with a treatment plan.
Also, the violent incident in January resulted in his family having him committed. I'm sure the services he received could have been better, but its hard to say how without knowing details that are most likely beyond our reach.
One thing I'm sure his healthcare providers would have agreed on is that he should not have been given access to guns. So we are back to the intersection of our local/national mental healthcare crisis and our overly permissive gun laws. Which one do we fix first? How bad is it going to get before we decide to take action on either one of them?

WTF?
And the mall shooting.
And the mall shooting.
Violence in Knoxville
Violence is getting worse everywhere, not just in Knoxville. Horrid events happen everyday in the U.S. Maybe you think this didnt happen here until now, and that is actually what I think. But, bad things such as 9/11 didnt happen in the U.S either. I do not know what will happen years and years after we arent here, I would actually hate to see it.
I dont recall all of the sex crimes happening either. Now, you have predators all around, some are teaching at schools. And I do wonder why this seems to happen now. I dont know this, but I can pretty much guarantee it did not happen years ago, and the student just didnt tell anyone.
And if you think about when you were in school, depending on your age, what if the pledge of allegiance wasnt allowed? Wouldnt that be shocking? I am actually glad I chose not have children, I would be terrified when they went to school. And that never happened either. Schools arent safe anymore.
This person had mental problems, the family was concerned, just like the teacher that shot the principles not long ago, his brother was very concerned. I know legally, when the person if adult age, there is only so much that can be enforced, but this is the result.
And if you think about when
And if you think about when you were in school, depending on your age, what if the pledge of allegiance wasnt allowed?
This is a what if, right? They haven't banned the pledge of allegiance in public schools, have they?

Nope.
