Just had a "baby boomer" roll through. Wind and a little thunder, maybe a 10th of an inch of rain. But at least it's rain. First I've seen in what seems like weeks. Hope we get some more. Last I heard we are about 9.5 inches under normal.
Looks like they are getting heavier rains further down South in Georgia. They need it worse than we do. And Florida is getting some much needed rain from Tropical Storm Barry that has formed in the Gulf.

I never thought I would
I never thought I would rejoice at the sight of a screen on the TV that says, "Searching for satellite signal". It's beautiful.

We got about
.08 here in North Knoxville. This was the first we had in 3 weeks. The air smells clean again too.
Waaa! Where's my rain?
Waaa! Where's my rain?
We could smell it but it
We could smell it but it didn't fall. We went to the creek, sat in the water and watched the chubs swim around. You guys have to come out some evening.
I'm ready to do a rain dance over here...
I can't take this much more. Everything is drying out and burning up. Ugh! I see clouds on the horizon, hear distant rumblings of thunder, but nothing falls from the sky. My skin is parched. My flowers demand expensive waterings.
Up North I used to suffer from seasonal disorder, now I'm going crazy down here from drought disorder.
Soon I'll start seeing mirages. Someone will find me dazed and stumbling toward trhe mountains, muttering about glimmering streams.
If it doesn't rain this weekend, I'm going to try to scream...even though my throat is so dry only dust might come out.

Wouldn't it be a great time for a BeeBopAreeBop Rhubarb Pie?
Sorry, Carole,
When I saw that comment, I couldn't help myself. It read so much like the lead in to one of those faux commercials on A Prairie Home Companion, coming to us this evening from the Rhubarb Festival in Lanesboro, Minnesota (WUOT-FM, 91.9, at 6:00PM).

Yeah. That mirage comment
Yeah. That mirage comment had me outright cackling with glee.
Think we got about .2" here in Nashville as well.
Rain in Merrrvuhl right now!
It's absolutely pouring right. A beautiful sight!
Rain in South Knoxville too
We got .5 inch. I was so happy I went out and danced in it! (Sorry ya'll missed the chance to laugh your asses off.)
Only a smattering in North Knox
This morning I drove my dog over to the dog park in spite of the dark clouds (which never produce any rain in my area) hanging over the ridges around me. Not a drop until we arrived, but the minute I parked the car---down it came. Yeah! Rain! I drove home delirously happy, but, the closer I got to my house the thinner the rain got. By the time I arrived in my driveway, it was clear only a trace had fallen on my garden. Then, the sun came out. Damn!
I spent the next few hours depressed, but by three o'clock in the afternoon, my over-excited puppy forced me cheer-up and to try the dog park again.
Would you believe the same thing happened? No rain until I parked my car. The puppy was going crazy, leaping around the car smelling the "fun place". All I did was open the door before the rain started, so Back home we went.
I know the rain is not a person. I know it can't really be avoiding me on purpose. Rain doesn't after all enjoy torturing people. It's just not hot-wired that way.
But I swear to god, there must be some kind of X marks the spot around the dog park and big fat ZERO on top of my house.
I am sooo jealous of anyone who had wet grass this week. Mine looks like brown sage grass in a desert landscape.
My next step will be a rain-dance. My neighbors will see me buck-naked dancing up and down the street rattling gourds.
It won't be a pretty sight.
a hint
Carole, you might try what I did yesterday: roll down your car windows and go inside to take a nap.

local weather
(link...)
I am fortunate that one of the locals has this on his website. Everything I want to know about our local weather- local as in the cove to the east of us.
Don't know the owner of the site but a big thank you to him just the same since we really appreciate his efforts!
We did not get as much rain as Maryville.....I am having New Mexico and California flashbacks... water... water... then I get a call from some NM buddies who tell me they are having record rainfalls, they are out of the drought and flowers which have not bloomed in years are appearing on the mesa.
Lovely map here (link...)

That Waterbrook site is really neat. Thanks for sharing that with us. I wish I had one of those close to home.

Beautiful weather today
I think the rain knocked out some of the nasty particulates and haze and other junk from the air because today was the most beautiful day since we arrived last week. Driving east on the Pellissippi Parkway I could see clear to Clingman's Dome (at least I think it was Clingman's Dome). I've never seen that far out before.
