My guess either someone in
My guess either someone in the AV department will be fired, or someone on a shoot for one of the hundreds of sports magazines is not a UT fan.
Tom Wolfe could write a 1000
Tom Wolfe could write a 1000 page novel off that video.
Who/what/how/why? The
Who/what/how/why? The players seem quite uncomfortable. If they were going to do this type of thing the producer should have made it a little more fun for the participants.
I personally would not know if those were actual UT football players.
I have seen similar
I have seen similar publicity stills shot before Kiffin's time. But that rainbow flag at the end of the video could be problematic for the him here in Redneckia.

I guess the chains are some
I guess the chains are some kind of strength training deal?
Nah...
I don't think anybody could have made that young man wear those chains if they were symbolic of plantation economics. He's totally ripped and earned it. This looks like a normal old photo shoot with an ugly car and some strong young men. It only looks gay if you think it looks gay. (yeah, me too, and I'm not)
Chains.
Yes. They're used for strength training.
This is pretty damn silly. The video, the photoshoot, and y'all's OTT reaction to them.
Semiotics? I shouldn't be surprised.
Sheesh. Calm the f*ck down.
You have to go and get
You have to go and get serious.
Just think. Each of them will be able to tell their grandchildren they touched a Lamborghini when they were in college.
Throw some sorority girls out there in bikinis
for a Playboy shoot. Same thing. And, not so good for UT's image, either, IMO.
Your answer
Each year the UTAD prints a poster of a bunch of FB players without their shirts, oiled up, flexing for the camera. "Iron Vols" they call it - or something like that. One year they did it in front of and around a massive (powerful - get it?) truck. Another year they used some sort of earth moving equipment.
The kids were looking up in the video because the photographer was poised on a ladder.
Apparently this year they are looking to make more of a "speed" statement than a "strength" statement with the poster.
No mystery.
Why the chains? That's some
Why the chains?
That's some very weird symbolism going on there.
I had the sound turned down and halfway expected Berry to break out into a chorus of "Old Man River." It got super-weird when I turned it up and heard 'shake my little tush on the catwalk'
