Wow
Wow, great piece Betty. Sure hope that Burchett and Haslam read it.
Well put, Betty!

I hadn't heard about the libel suit.

Damn, Bean, that deserves an award of some sort. Very well put. Very well put.
Campbell's seat
A Democrat can win it.
Other than that point, a great article.
Thanks for writing the truth.

specific backers of Campfield. They need to stand up and be counted.
There are otherwise reasonable republicans Facebooking that Campfield was discriminated against by Boggs. One wrote, in part, "what's the difference in refusing service to a perceived moron versus refusing service to someone who is black, Jewish, gay, etc?"
my response to them: "He is not a minority, is not in a protected class. Following your logic, the Boston Tea Party discriminated against the British. This is a government official spreading false information that can put children at risk of hiv infection."
There are otherwise
Stop it. Please, stop believing that words mean whatever republicans say they mean. If you are at a buffet dinner with a multitude of options for entrees and vegetables and soups and deserts, you can't possibly get everything on your plate and you cannot even consume one full bite of everything available so, you pick and choose. You might also state that as being discriminating about which foods you eat. You are being discriminating when you choose one color out of all those available to paint your house, which car you purchase, which clothes you wear. To be indiscriminate about many things is pretty much a death sentence. The mere fact that someone discriminated is no more automatically bad than is the fact of their drawing a breath.
In this particular case, it was not who or what he was that got him the bums rush. It was what he did/said. It was a specific action, the wilful dissemination of dangerous untruths and using the auspices of his political position to enhance said dissemination. it was discrimination in the same way that the police discriminate against criminals in whom they arrest. It was discrimination in the same way that oncologists discriminate for those who have cancer when choosing folk to treat with chemotherapy.
The Korda School of Moronity may want it to be something else but this was a specific uncivil act by an individual that turned out to have repercussions. I have personally seen red heads be served at the Bistro. I have seen republicans served there, Catholics, Baptists, Atheists, musicians, advertising/PR personel, college students, Blacks, Hispanics, Whites, Asians, poor, injured, healthy, aged, young, veterans, hippies, dog people, cat people, allergic people and Gawd only knows who else. There is no group of whom Campfield is a verified member that is refused service by Martha simply for being in that group. That is the discrimination that the kneejerk reich-wingers want you to believe Martha's action was, that is the spin they want to present to the public. It is blatantly false and misleading, much like Campfield's words that started all this.

why Woodson left.
Good luck.
She is extremely disciplined and smart and is one of the best public officials I've ever seen at keeping her mouth shut.
But I don't really think it's all that hard -- former Senator Bill Frist offered her a high-paid, prestigious job in a field that she staked out to master from the time she first went to the legislature.
The alternative was sitting next to Campfield ad infinitum and working for $36,000 (approximately) a year. What's hard about that choice?
SCORE was her reward...
...for selling out teachers on the Senate Education Committee.
Korda defends poor Stacey
George Korda was all over the place in defending poor Stacey on WATE's TN This Week yesterday. We were glad we could fast forward through his silly dribble. Does he have a dog in this fight or does he just have to defend anyone with an "R" next to their name?
Korda logic
Priceless: (link...)
Jamie Woodson's politics
Jamie Woodson's politics aren't mine. But she and Campfield are from different stratospheres.
