Tune in to...
Another fascinating episode of "who you gonna believe, me or your lying eyes"?
Let me guess, "no taxpayer money was used".
Have you worked out how to swear in early the new Team Ragsdale? Probably don't want to have Davis, Daniels, and DeFreese on board to vet the Hospitality Fund audit in the August meeting do you?
Some simple math, Bolus sworn in early=BAD. New Team Ragsdale sworn in early=GOOD.
The sixth floor, situational ethics at its best.
I just might die of shock...
...the day you decide to have the testicular fortitude to stand beside your words.
No, really, it's funny to watch you out in public, Mike. You're NOTHING like this. I remember the Fourth District forum just this month, when Don Parnell of all people ended up backing you down when you insisted on trying to carry out your pathetic little political hit job.
So what do you do? Back to the good ol' Net to quote Orwell and act self-important! A winner is you... at least, in your own mind.
But you know what the truly sad part is? You really enjoy this. You actually enjoy being ridiculed, it seems. For you, ANY attention is good attention, isn't it?
Even if it exposes you for who you are - a sad, strange little man who makes Don Quixote look like a reasonable kinda guy.
I'd go on, but what's the point? It's like swatting a housefly with a howitzer anyway: Fun for a little while, but in the end a waste of time and resources.
Yep. A winner is you.
Still wating...
for your subpoena Paone.
Already talked to the attorney...
...and he said if the goal was just to expose you and hold you accountable, then there's little point since your identity is the worst-kept secret since the fact that ducks quack and your personal reputation outside of the four or five people who are your friends (or at least pretend to be) is on par with that of Ann Coulter.
Besides, your accusation ended up getting pulled anyway - and a word to the wise, I'd be more careful about doing it again. Your next accusation just might be Number9's last. :-)
Anyway, as much as I'm sure Mr. Neal enjoys seeing stuff like this cluttering up his website, I've got work to do. But by all means, enjoy yourself, Mike.
After all, so long as YOU feel self-important, what does it matter what anyone else thinks? Just be careful Parnell (or anyone else in existence, really) doesn't punk you out again!
Seriously, that was hilarious.
Wait a minute...
Besides, your accusation ended up getting pulled anyway - and a word to the wise, I'd be more careful about doing it again.
You mean to tell me after threatening to sue me for libel because I may have possibly inferred you were a "Mayor's Man" that you destroyed the evidence? You asked for the comment to be deleted at the News Sentinel?
Did your attorney laugh when you told him this or did he keep a straight face?
First rule, don't delete the comment if you plan to sue for libel.
I really shouldn't be helping you but someone has to. It is obvious you are unclear on concept.
Now I have to send everyone home empty handed. There is a subpoena party here and I just made another pitcher of margaritas. We just ordered Pizza. I guess we will put up the Hospitality Fund audit on the big screen and have some laughs with it.
Oh, I printed it out...
...and the comments are still preserved on the KnoxNews backend. Remember - I have a year. :-)
Damn, you're dumb. Entertaining as all hell, but no one's accusing you of being a genius, are they.
By the way... margaritas? If you're going to call your masculinity into question, you might as well just go for mojitos or something and get it the hell over with.
But at any rate, that's more than enough attention for the likes of you. Go enjoy your chick drinks!
(Sorry, Randy. With setups like these, it's just too hard for young'ns like me to resist. I know, it doesn't make me any better, but damned if it's not fun sometimes.)
you printed it out?

Lime juice, tequila, Grand Mariner, and salt is a chick drink?
BTW, could you repost that comment for me? I don't have a copy.
Yeah, "dude"...
...chick drinks.

All right, I'm bored now.
Repost?
Could you post that here so I could have a copy? I didn't think to save it.
Between the two of us, Mr. Mitchell...

I understand you have a pathological need for the last word, so have at it, "man".

#9 is a coward. He eagerly
#9 is a coward. He eagerly awaits with anticipation for anything to be posted by someone employed by the City of Knoxville so he can bash them behind wall of psuedo anonymity. Coward.
The great Justin...
And you are? Just another pseudonymous blogger who screams in the rain calling other pseudonymous bloggers cowards. Is that a double negative or a double entendre?
Pretty incoherent, as usual Justin. BTW, Van de Vate works for the County, not the City.
Glad to know you still care...
DVdV works for the county.
DVdV works for the county.
CITY, COUNTY...it doesnt
CITY, COUNTY...it doesnt matter with the digit. I'll be more than happy to give you my last name and address coward. Send me a PM.
9=Coward.
Actually, City or County
Actually, City or County matters a great deal. Nine is highlighting a pattern of behavior by the County which has been evident during all of the audits thus far. The City, to my knowledge, has never had a "we are cleared" press conference. I do not suspect Mayor Haslam (that is the City) will ever need such a statement.
Its the type of personal
Its the type of personal attacks/snark et al that he has done in the past as his digit persona that makes him a coward. He would never say anything in public like he has said on here or the half dozen other websites that he spews forth his hatred of Ragsdale thus, #9 (Mike) = coward.
Still the same...
It didn't seem that personal attacks/snark on conservatism was needed as you already have that covered. It's okay when you do it but wrong if someone else is pseudonymous? We can tell you are not a coward because you have a just cause. Right?
Another situational ethicist. So tell us, do you support the early swearing in of Commissioners? Because folk hero Herb and Napoleon the Mayor do.
Remember Justin, "All animals are equal, but some are more equal than others". Keep telling yourself that.

Nine, As I told you
Nine,
As I told you before:
You really don't have a leg to stand on here. These new commissioners will be legitimately ELECTED. Bolus was illegitimately APPOINTED. It is not a parallel situation.
And it really has nothing to do with whether you or I like the sitting appointees or what's on their agenda -- they should not be in office once new commissioners are elected.
And although I respect the right of those who choose anonymity to remain nameless, it does seem a little chickenshit to hide behind the curtain and lob long distance spitballs at those who have the courage to stand up for their opinions. I'm unclear as to the reasons that you keep using "Nine" anyhow, since most everybody seems to know who you are.
Bean
Is it a little odd that two days after the full Commission meeting the Mayor responds to the Hospitality Fund audit? Is it a little odd that the Mayor himself suggested an early swearing in date in order to rush in the new Commission? Is there anything wrong with the current Commission? This isn't because this Commission actually investigates problems in government is it?
A source told me that Van de Vate said the Mayor was waiting for a more "receptive" Commission. Do tell. Do you think?
Herb can be relied on to find a loophole for anything that is pro-Ragsdale and anti-everyone else. He has become an anachronism.
This reminds me of Clinton parsing the meaning of the word is.
It is either right or it is wrong. This is nothing more than a means to delay this Commission from investigating the Hospitality Fund audit.
Now the Commission has no choice but to call Special Call meetings in order to finish out their term.
This is just like what happened Monday with a Charter Amendment. Unless "special people" create the Amendment, it should not go to the ballot. But when "special people" create a Charter Amendment the cry is "let the people vote".
How much hypocrisy can the people take? You want to know why voting is down in Knox County? Too much hypocrisy. The people have said "a pox on all of you".
The enemy was apathy. In February, the apathy was washed away. Now it is back with a vengeance.
Bbeanster
We all know by now the sides involved with the swearing of newly elected commissioners in the middle of a monthly commission cycle. As long as the conditions can be controlled, the process will be skewed in favor of the pompous and dismissive administration. The citizens want to see what this administration is trying to hide. Let this commission finish their job and let the truth come to light.
I have never seen a professional news person publish the word “chickenshit” before. I can not even find the word in the dictionary.
I can not even find the word
I can not even find the word in the dictionary.
Here's some help: Chickenshit.
Entry:
1 chick·en·shit
Pronunciation: \ˈchi-kən-ˌshit\
Function: adjective
Date: 1945
1 usually vulgar : petty, insignificant
2 usually vulgar : lacking courage, manliness, or effectiveness

Did you write the Tyler Harber story?
And although I respect the right of those who choose anonymity to remain nameless, it does seem a little chickenshit to hide behind the curtain and lob long distance spitballs at those who have the courage to stand up for their opinions. I'm unclear as to the reasons that you keep using "Nine" anyhow, since most everybody seems to know who you are.
Are you serious? With all you know you advise people to list their real names?
Let's see, if the Mayor knows you real name then you can count on your email being stolen and your medical records being stolen. And worse. You wrote that Bean. WTF?
You are pissed about Finbarr and that was a real cheap shot Bean. Finbarr made his bed. It was wrong. I didn't do anything more than call it to the people's attention. Why you defend the early swearing in in beyond me. Herb's excuse is crap. Finbarr's excuse is crap. It is wrong.
Bean, if a person takes on the County Mayor and doesn't respect what can happen, then they aren't very smart.
Wipe the partisan politics from your eyes, that was uncalled for. What has gotten into you? The majority of the people here, and on all local blogs are anonymous or pseudonymous.
They should be in this place.
Are you serious? With all
Jeeze, Nine --
Now you are paraphrasing the collected works of Betty Bean? The reason you know that stuff is because three people had the guts and the fortitude to lay it out for you and to attach our names to the stories.
I made the effort to go after the story, and casting false modesty aside, it was a damned herculean effort on my part. I couldn't have done it without the backing of Sandra Clark. And I damn sure couldn't have done it without Tyler Harber, who had endured more than his share of my barbs over his young career here, but trusted me to tell the truth. All three of us put our names and reputations out there in the process, and all three of us took beatings over it and moved on with our lives.
And contrary to whatever strange theory you've concocted, I haven't given Finbarr Saunders two thoughts in the last couple of weeks. He's not "my" candidate and I'm not trying to get him elected (although I do think he'd probably do a good job). I am not involved in any race, but I do support Amy Broyles in my home district, and I look forward to seeing her seated (although I like Mark Campen just fine).
The simple truth, as I see it, is that (earth to 9) Ragsdale already has a friendly commission. And I hadn't given even one thought to the time of swearing-in. I just don't see it as an issue, and although, once it was brought up I don't see any good reason not to do it, I'm OK with waiting until September 1 -- it's just not such a big deal to anybody who's not obsessed with Ragsdale.
I trust that you haven't forgotten the numerous times I've defended you when nobody else did. I don't bear you any ill will. I just wish you'd quit acting like a nut. This constant orange alert can't be good for your health.
PS: I've been calling Ragsdale on his crap since 1993 when he led the hypocritical gay-bashing session complete with greasy-headed hellfire preachers. I wrote about the impropriety of Arms keeping his commission seat while serving as Ragsdale's chief of staff, and I wrote (several times) about his boorish, bullying behavior during meetings. I did it at Metro Pulse and I did it at the Shopper and my name was on every column I wrote and I'm still standing.
So spare me your lame lectures on the dangers of criticizing the mayor. Been there, written about it and lived to tell the tale.
B. Bean
What is the burr under your saddle?
And I hadn't given even one thought to the time of swearing-in. I just don't see it as an issue, and although, once it was brought up I don't see any good reason not to do it, I'm OK with waiting until September 1 -- it's just not such a big deal to anybody who's not obsessed with Ragsdale.
What's up? Chickenshit, obsessed. Now after all that you okay with a September 1st swearing in date? You didn't seem okay with it when you were hurling invectives all over the place.
As to being obsessed with Ragsdale. A person could make the charge that you used to be. Apparently you have gotten over it. After he is tried and convicted in court I will be. The people who don't care are the ones I don't understand. It isn't about Ragsdale, it is about showing the next County Mayor that the job isn't a license to steal.
Unlike you, I will answer
Unlike you, I will answer the questions posed to me:
What's up? Chickenshit, obsessed. Now after all that you okay with a September 1st swearing in date? You didn't seem okay with it when you were hurling invectives all over the place.
I'm OK with either way it gets done, although upon reflection, I see more good reasons to do it sooner than to wait. My objection is to your paranoid theories re early swearing in, and, generally, to people who attack others personally while attempting to mask their own identity. That is the very definition of chickenshit.
.
For many years, my JOB was to cover county government. It was pretty thankless, and I'm pretty burned out with it. The beat is in good hands with Larry VG, who is doing a great job and brings a unique skillset to the task.
No more than I've gotten over the misdeeds of a bunch of other county officials. But life goes on, Nine. And I'm glad I've got one -- a life, I mean. Plus, I work for a living, and have moved on to other projects.
Pretty presumptuous to predict the outcome, Nine. I've also covered courts, and I can tell you that making these kinds of sweeping statements is risky.
You are being way less than honest here. While I'm sure you do care about the conduct of future mayors, it absolutely is about Ragsdale to you. You are willing to overlook all kinds of transgressions, depending on whether it's one of your pets doing the transgressing.
parsing chickenshit
That is the very definition of chickenshit.
I thought the "very definition of chickenshit" was hiding behind someones skirt like Ragsdale does with Van de Vate?
I know you like Dwight. But he is a willing human shield. Dwight has made his bed.
The idea that Ragsdale should get a pass because others have done bad also is faulty logic. None of them should be breaking the law with gleeful abandon.
I think Justin's point is
I think Justin's point is that Mike likes to bash the City administration as well as the County administration.
He's an equal opportunity basher when it comes to Mayors.

I see...
You are the decider.
You decide who can speak and who must remain quite. If they get out of line according to you then, "so and so just likes to push it to the limit with his/her/their tirades." Who is the coward oh great decider? Remind me when we elected you decider. I don't recall that.
Rather than offer a defense of Mike Ragsdale you choose to attack those who dare to ask questions. Do you do this because it would be an embarrassment to defend the good Mayor?
How dare they attempt to exercise free speech.
Let's review, only appointed Commissioners, stupid people, car salesmen, conservatives, liberals, Scoobie-dos, and attractive female South Knoxvillians and West Knoxvillians dare to ask questions about the "Emperor who wears no clothes".
Defend the Mayor. Don't tell people they aren't worthy to comment. You are no different than anyone else here.

You don't have the "fortitude" to say what you posted earlier to Dwight or Mike in person do you? Are you calling Dwight a liar? Pretty serious charge calling a someone a liar. You need to be careful about what you type Mike.

herb posted here about the swearing in deal.i offered a comment go read it
i aint a lawyer but read it tell me what you think.
Yes, it is there in the T.C.A. Along with a lot of other code. It has been there a long time. No one ever thought of using that in such a cheap way. Until now. Cue Herb.
John Owings has said that there is no law that REQUIRES newly elected Commissioners to be sworn in early. It is up to each individual Commissioner.
That is correct. Bolus did nothing illegal. But it was wrong then and it is wrong now. Sometimes, like this time, there are conflicts in the law that require interpretations.
Does the State Constitution trump the County Charter?
Well sometimes, and sometimes not.
What is going on is a back room behind the scenes deal to get enough of the newly elected Commissioner to agree to be sworn in together as to spread the guilt and blame. If anyone has any doubts I will post some audio and video to prove it.
This is no different than cutting line. Why don't people cut line at the movie theater? Because it is wrong. And you might get in a scuffle if you do.
It sucks. It is the same old stuff. Special people have special rights in this scruffy little town. That is why we have the apathy we have. People just throw up their hands and say "screw it".
But that is exactly what the special people want.
So, what does the audit
So, what does the audit response say? Anyone read it? Or care to comment?
And stop insulting one another?
But seriously:
It appears Ragsdale admits to breaking a number of state and county laws. I don't see much in the way of denial with the audit's findings, though there seems to be something of a dig at the Sheriff's office attached at the end (gotta love completely mature and not at all asinine factionalism!).
It bothers me, though, that while the response seems to accept blame on the surface, there's distinct attempts to shunt some of the more serious blame onto the shoulders of other governmental entities (the commission, Sheriff's office, Law Department, etc.) For example: Item 3 (pg 4 and 5 of the PDF) shows that the administration was in violation of TCA 5-8-101, and alleges violation of 5-9-401 (which seems to be disputed by the response).
Instead of accepting the blame in this instance, it looks like a lot of "weasel-wording" is being used to say "Hey, it's okay!" No. Breaking the law is rarely, if ever, okay, and in this instance there's no excuse - to me, anyway.
There's a lot of attempts at explanation, but few if any solutions offered by the audit. As a citizen, I don't want excuses. I want the law to be followed, and anyone found guilty of breaking the law sufficiently punished just as any other person would be.
Ok,our County Mayor admits
Ok,our County Mayor admits to breaking several state laws. So now what? If they are criminal in nature, shouldn't the Sheriff arrest him? If the laws are civil, should he be before a civil judge?
For face value, I agree with a properly documented hospitality fund. I would rather my tax dollars not pay for fireworks to promote the KCSO when companies are willing to pay for them. Does this mean if I want to feed the some county employees that I have to first get commission approval, give the money or food to the county, and have them disburse it?
Number Nine:
I always read your comments here and at the KNS when they decide to let the comment section roll. I sympathize with you. I think you keep looking for justice to be done to Mayor Ragsale and company for their misdeeds. I think you keep hoping county commission will step up and take control. I think you hope Dwight will do the right thing and finally say "I can't make excuses for this crowd anymore". I think you keep looking for the mayor to wake up one day and apologize to Knox County...to feel some remorse.
We all feel that frustration. Its an overwhelming feeling of helplessness that we have and to be honest to constantly spend your energy fighting it is a losing battle. At some point you have to realize you have done all that you can do. Its out of our hands...let the investigators do the rest. And the KNS is a lost cause...they will continue to print stories in bold headlines that make a commission member look like a jackass and they will avoid stories which embarrass Ragsdale until they have no choice to report them. It is maddening, but...
Its a sad reality. Can I give you some advice? Take a day off...don't read the paper, don't look at the blogs, don't turn on the tv or radio. Drive up to the mountains, find a cool mountain stream and take your shoes off. Regroup.
