Interested in the relative "state of the party" when Chad Tindell left as Knox County GOP chair in March 2005 versus when Brian Hornback left last Saturday?
Check out (link...)
Short version: Chad left almost $18,000 in the treasury; Brian left $309. -- s.

What was the problem? Did
What was the problem? Did Hornback not know there was still three hundred bucks left in the account?
formula 309
Something is wrong with those numbers. The starting balance plus deposits exactly equals the expenditures. That seems unlikely, and it does not reconcile with a remaining balance, even a meager $309.
Rikki, it is Hornback's own
Rikki, it is Hornback's own version of Voodoo Economics :-)

I don't know what kind of account the money was in, but $309 represents interest earned, perhaps?
And yes, curious that deposits exactly matched expenditures...
If $309 is interest, that
If $309 is interest, that would be about $12.89 a month. That amount could be interest.
The part that I don't understand is his explaination about fundraising being down because they only had 1 Lincoln Day dinner. The party doesn't keep or control the money from the dinner, the courthouse office holders do.
Somethin' just ain't right.

Nothing curious about that. Most of us live that way from payday to payday. :-)
Could be something a simple as an outstanding check included in expenditures but not deducted from the unreconciled bank balance. I suspect that if there had been an inpropriety the treasurer whould have made it known. I also suspect that someone will make a donation to keep the office open.
Will miss Brian, however, he's been good for many chuckles.

did you try scrolling down?
The scroll wheel for the mouse won't work but you can scroll down with the bar at the side of the picture.

Correction
The Expenditures line should read -- $33,626.31
I'm making this change on the website. Good catch,Rikki.

Sounds like the treasurer/newly appointed Chief Assistant Register of Deeds should be able to explain where the money was spent.
CL, which "Courthouse Office holders" keep the proceeds of the Lincoln Day Dinner?
Scott, I don't know. I'm
Scott, I don't know. I'm assuming that they have some account set up. I'll check around and see what I can find out.
Thanks
Good Deal. Thanks!
Ms. Clark, if you're out there, do you know if there has been any detailed type of explanation as to how monies were spent and exactly who is responsible for holding funds raised at the Lincoln Dinners?
To Scott
Actually, the Lincoln Day Dinners are internal Republican matters. There may be a reporting requirement, but I'm not aware of it.
That said, several years ago (following the reign of party chair R. Larry Smith) the countywide officeholders took control of the Lincoln Day Dinner away from the county party. The money now goes into a separate account. Ray Hill was in charge of this when he worked for Mike Lowe. I don't know who is in charge now. -- s.
Scott, I'm sorry it took so
Scott, I'm sorry it took so long. Telephone tag can be a drawn-out game.:)
This is what I've been told. It goes into a fund controlled by the Republican Ticket Committee. The money is used to cover the campaign expenses of the local Republican ticket, not individual candidates, during the general election.
Thanks CL
Thanks CL. It would be interesting to find out where all the money was spent.
