Why not make a night of it?
If you're headed Downtown to kick the tires on your next round of jokes...Er...Uh, I mean, County Appointees, you may as well make a night of it by adding dinner and/or drinks at one of Downtown's many fine restaurants/bars/etc.
I'm going to watch the Lady
I'm going to watch the Lady Vols play Rutgers!
That date was circled on my calendar long before this deal.
will the meeting be broadcast?
either on CTV, Channel 21 (WBIR), or posted later by Paone?
It's on CTV Channel 21 now
in this order: Dist 2, 1, 4
Curses - firewalled again!
The CCB has a firewall up that prevents uploading, as well as POP3 connections. Video will be available tomorrow.
Meanwhile, I think I'll look into one of those Sprint or AT&T cards and see if I can't get one with at least a 1.1 Mbps upload speed.
Anyone reading this have AT&T BroadbandConnect?
I just want to know if it's a worthwhile service. I may try to use it for streaming and get around the firewall at the CCB.
I have the Verizon wireless
I have the Verizon wireless broadband service. It works pretty great. It's pretty fast, about like DSL, but I don't think it's 1.1 mbps.
I have blogged from the CCB and uploaded photos at least once, on Black Wednesday. Didn't have any problems with a firewall or anything. Did not try email. Is this something new?
Nothing new - just a different method of access, maybe?
Were you using the public wireless system inside the Main Assembly Room, or your Verizon broadband? If the latter, that explains how you were able to upload and receive POP3 email (web-based email isn't affected by the firewall).
If the former, I'd love to see the setup on your rig so I can emulate it. I'd hate to think I wasted a ton of cash on live streaming gear, only to be able not to use it!
Sorry, I wasn't clear. I
Sorry, I wasn't clear. I didn't have the Verizon broadband on Black Wednesday. I was just using the public wireless system inside the Main Assembly Room. I uploaded photos though the blog here, using the file attachment which worked fine. I didn't try FTP or anything exotic. Don't recall if I used POP3 email that day or not. Probably not, because there was too much action to keep up with.
Maybe your own PC firewall is blocking it because of it being a public/open wifi connection? I have had to mess around with profiles and stuff for "home", "office", and "public" settings in various firewall/virus protection software I have used.
P.S. Here was the original live blog, in case anyone would like to relive the infamous day:

Seat 2B supplicant...applicant
My apologies to all for not being able to attend the interview for the 2B seat on Monday night. I will present myself before the commission on the 19th for a grilling that could be thrilling (though I can't promise a session rife with scowls and howls) . Since there seems to be a dearth of information about me on the Knox Politics site, I'd be happy to answer any question beforehand (political, spiritual, philosophical, experiential) in any digital forum, through email (kendallwells@netscape.com), or at birthday parties, gun shows and weddings.
I assume you mean my site, Mr. Wells?
You're more than welcome to fill in the blanks by sending the information to admin@politicalknoxville.com - with over 40 applicants and just one me trying to cover all that's going on, making videos, creating bios, and working on other projects (on top of that thing my wife tells me is called "real life"), it can be a bit difficult to gather the information sometimes.
If you're trying to out-funny Walt Wojnar....
... your application is in the wrong district. Walt's in the Fourth.
I tried to get Elaine to say, when asked "what sets you above the other candidates", to respond "I don't like lobster."
OK, so that wasn't as good as Walt's quip:
"Do you promise to wait to be sworn in until all the appointments are done?"
Walt: "I try to make it a habit not to appear before a judge any more than absolutely necessary." [or something to that effect].
It was a really good meeting, well-run, with lots of good candidates for caretakers.

I meant no offense, Brian. You are doing a terrific job handling a heavy load. My invitation is for a more thorough explanation of a bit player's political (and otherwise) views.

Kendall, care to pick a couple or three of these and share your views?

how would you approach that conflicting input?
