Lawyers representing the broadcast network and “This Week” anchor George Stephanopoulos on Friday morning argued in a virtual court hearing that Trump must make himself available for a deposition next week, before a Dec. 24 deadline for the defendants to file a motion for summary judgment to avoid a trial.
...
Trump filed the lawsuit this year against ABC News and Stephanopoulos, who participated in the Friday hearing via Zoom sitting before a blue high-backed couch, after the anchor asserted on the air that Trump had been “found liable for rape” by a federal jury in Manhattan.
...
While the jury found that Trump sexually abused writer E. Jean Carroll during a mid-1990s encounter in a department store, and held him liable for battery, they did not find that she had proved he raped her. Months later, however, while tossing Trump’s countersuit against Carroll, U.S. District Judge Lewis Kaplan wrote that “Mr. Trump in fact did ‘rape’ Ms. Carroll as that term commonly is used and understood.”
How many countries have elected a person for president that was found to have sexually abused someone?

ABC News has agreed to pay
ABC News has agreed to pay $15 million toward Donald Trump’s presidential library to settle a defamation lawsuit over anchor George Stephanopoulos’ inaccurate on-air assertion that the president-elect had been found civilly liable for raping writer E. Jean Carroll.
You know,
(in reply to bizgrrl)
This is really kind of a scary, dystopian outcome. It's not a good sign of things to come.
They caved
Hard to believe our major media is obeying in advance.
Imagine how the media and the
Imagine how the media and the American public would have reacted if Biden or Obama or Bush had done a fraction of the things Trump has done. I know 77 million people voted for the SOB, but 75 million voted against him. That certainly is not a mandate. The media and the American public need to hold him accountable every day. He has been given a free ride. He needs to be challenged on all the bullshit he throws out there that is a big lie. Almost everything he says is dishonest. He is a draft dodging loser. He is a rapist and racist that thinks of disabled veterans and those that have sacrificed their lives defending democracy as losers and sucker's. He is the despicable human that even Mitch McConnell cannot stand. He has never been qualified for any position in government. I think some folks in our government that have some integrity and maybe some in the media are going to finally say enough with this buffoon and his luck is going to run out. I think just by chance things will be revealed about Trump that the public will finally find unacceptable. The third time might be the charm that finds the loser guilty and kicks him out. I will be hoping and praying justice and right prevails.
I'm not sure your premise holds here.
(in reply to Mike Daugherty)
I'm not sure where you plan on finding enough people with integrity to make any real changes. Looks like digging a hole, buying ammunition and waiting this four years out is becoming a more and more reasonable solution.
I think Biden made a hell of
(in reply to fischbobber)
I think Biden made a hell of a lot of progress and Trump will take credit for a lot of it. Your still going to have most of the same people in Congress. In last month's election half of the voters were right and the other half wrong. Why should the half that was right give up their hopes? We have a mid-term election in two years. Rolling over dead is not going to help the chances of taking the House and Senate. The narrow 220 to 215 Republican majority in the House can easily be reversed. Republicans have more Senators up for re-election. They can lose. That can make a huge difference in Trump advancing his right wing agenda.
We have never had an unqualified serial criminal as President but we have been through harder times and the American people responded an pulled through. We will not pull through this crisis if good people back down and give up. Most of us have had family and friends dying from cancer, covid, and other brutal diseases. Many fought very hard and gave it there all for that last breath. That is real courage. The least we can do is hang in there and have the guts to resist and minimize the damage the bastard does to our country. Waiting out four years with no resistance is the wrong attitude.Without millions of people fighting and resisting, we are
doomed. I hope you change your mind.
Well, frankly,
(in reply to Mike Daugherty)
I need a break. I figured out that covid was being weaponized by a group of local politicians for the purpose of advancing their political ambitions. I knew that a lot of people would die because of that and I knew that they knew that as well. Those records exist. I've also studied terrorism since the seveties as a branch of political science. I had the priviledge of having my step-dad Colonel John E. Jessup mentor me in my study in the aftermath of 9/11. And I recognized that this was the local government that has been instituted. And it's done as it intended. How's your ambulance service? How's your emergency responses working out in general? We are dismantling local government. Now, it's happening on a national level. And I'm wore out.
And I've worked at calling these folks out and frankly, I think people in the local Republican Party control the destiny of that party, not some wore out broke down retired UPS dude widely viewed as a left wing agitator who can't even get recognized as a person at local social and competetive clubs who needs to just shut up and get out of the way. I mean, c'mon dude. The incoming president has declared a social war on people like me and it's not like there aren't local crackpots that might view that as open season. Our local politicians arm themselves when they go door to door. I don't want to have to live a life where I have to arm myself against the population in general. It's time to take a break.
It's time to take care of
(in reply to fischbobber)
It's time to take care of ourselves. Step back, breath, enjoy the outdoors. Step away from social media. We haven't watched CNN or MSNBC since the election. We do read the New York Times and Washington Post. Have been a little involved in Bluesky as a replacement for X. I read Drudge (the horror) for headlines.
Must hope all will be ok in the future. Ignore all MAGA. If you really want to feel better, move to Vermont. :) There are lots of good people in the country. Many of these good people are still working hard for us. We must support them, maybe later but we can admire those and help when possible.
Try to rid yourself of the anger and build productivity instead.

(in reply to bizgrrl)
Good advice. Vermont would be great. But if fischbobber is like me he has kids and grandkids and other family and friends he could not leave. My wife and I had not watched MSNBC or CNN since election either. But yesterday we read where their ratings had plummeted since election and realize there are many people like us that have just wanted to tune out the nightmare come true. We have tuned back into MSNBC and CNN . They could be the only source for honest info and figure if they are forced off air it will be difficult to hear honest reports of news. We will mute when the buffoon is on. The reality has sunk in and we have to be upbeat do what we can to support good news outlets and reject or/and ignore anybody that is about MAGA.
Yeah, we'll tune back in
(in reply to Mike Daugherty)
Yeah, we'll tune back in sooner than later. We definitely don't want to lose them. My favorites are Nicole Wallace and Stephanie Ruhle. CNN is better for events, e.g. weather, disaster, etc. No real favorites on CNN except for Wolf.
We need both networks to
(in reply to bizgrrl)
We need both networks to counter Fox & and their propaganda. My relatives in Kentucky only watch the Fox Propaganda station and then go to their evangelical church for reinforcement on the weekends. Everything they listen to is propaganda.
When American Government was a senior level class in high school, I always brought Voter registration forms and gave to my students. I had them complete in class and then I returned them to the Election Commission. Many turned 18 their senior year and became eligible to vote in elections the year of their graduation. Voting is a responsibility , but learning the facts and becoming an informed voter is also a very important responsibility of a good citizen.
I have convinced my 49 year old nephew to watch a lot of MSNBC this year. He had never voted or registered to vote. MSNBC helped convince him to get registered this summer and cast a vote for the first time. He voted in the August primary and the November general election. He was excited about expressing his opinion and casting his vote. Even though he said his votes were lost causes, sometimes the lost cause is the best cause. I'm proud of him. We need MSNBC and CNN and other sources that give an honest report of the news and do not lie and twist the facts with propaganda. Without MSNBC,CNN,and a few other credible news sources, the Fox/Trump Propaganda Agency will control what we know and become America's Pravda.
Yep, I understand your
Yep, I understand your frustration. There have always been crooks in American politics. The muckraking journalists during the Progressive Era exposed many of the crooks. They also brought about reform in child labor laws and other progressive reforms in many areas of American life that benefited our country. Vietnam and Civil rights protestors brought about needed change. We need good people to speak up and fight against the injustices in our country..
Many leaders benefitted from their stance on covid. Glenn Jacobs and his anti-Vax cronies convinced my brother against using the covid vaccine. I begged him to get it with no success. He listened to Jacob's and the Qanons etc. I took him to hospital on Oct. 5, 2021. He died there from covid on Oct. 28, 2021. Jacobs could be our next governor. Your preaching to the choir. You take a break. I will resist.
