What: Books Sandwiched In welcomes Gabe Cline-Snell leading a panel discussion
When: Wednesday, November 15, 2017 - 12:00pm
Where: East Tennessee History Center, 601 South Gay Street
Join Gabrielle Cline-Snell as she leads a panel discussion of Evicted: Poverty and Profit in the American City by Matthew Desmond on Wednesday, November 15, noon–1:00 in the East Tennessee History Center. Our panelists will discuss the book, the cycle of poverty and homelessness, and local solutions and resources.
There is hardly anything so essential as having a place to sleep and call home. "Evicted reveals how hard it is for those living in poverty to remain housed," Cline-Snell said. "It is an accurate reflection of the struggles faced by many in our Knoxville community who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless."
Panelists are all members of the Knoxville Homeless Coalition: Gabe Cline-Snell, Volunteer Ministry Center's Chief Clinical Services Officer; Misty Goodwin, Knoxville-Knox County Community Action Committee's Homeward Bound Program; Bruce Spangler, Chief Executive Officer of Volunteer Ministry Center; Lisa Higginbotham, Knoxville Homeless Management Information System data analyst.
Books Sandwiched In will continue January 24 when Dr. Jason Fletcher, Professor at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, discuss his own book The Genome Factor: What the Social Genomics Revolution Tells Us About Ourselves, Our History and Our Future. And on February 28, Dr. Mark Harmon, University of Tennessee, Knoxville, will discuss The American Spirit: Who We Are and What We Stand For by David McCullough.
