Since we're doing restaurant reviews I figured I'd convey my experiences at Vegorama, the new vegetarian place on Central in the Happy Holler area. I've been twice and was satisfied both times.
This new and uplifting place is right across the street from the Time Warp tea room. Excellent decor, great service (quick, polite, efficient), and awesome food that could make a meat lover forget they are at a vegetarian place.
The reuben is as good as I've had, meat or no, with the best slaw I have EVER had anywhere anyhow.
The veggie burger is also really good. Nice home-made patty that with a rich smoky flavor. Definitely a belly filler.
The humous plate is excellent, with a generous supply of veggies for dipping. Very low carb friendly.
Spinach salad is fabulous with some great goat cheese and nuts to go along with the salad.
The one kind of lame menu item is the noodle salad. Way too many noodles and too few veggies equal a no-character and minimal nutrition dish.
The drink situation is also good. Full bar, wine...they did screw up the on-tap beer offering with right wing Heritage Foundation funding, Nazi sympathizer Coors specialty beer "Blue Moon", but they also offer the local Woodruff IPA and Porter, though they were out of the IPA last night.
The main desert item is also interesting. Its basically frozen banana mush which is way better than it sounds. As tasty as it is, I do think they need a more enticing desert specialty. At least put some chocolate and nuts on it.
On the whole I'm tickled pink by this place. Thrilled to have a good healthy eatery within walking distance of my house where I can get a good local microbrew and a killer reuben.

'Nuff said--it's on my list to go
I'm a sucker for a great reuben 'n' beer. I've finally decided I'm not that nuts about the Downtown Brewery offerings, though. I just tried Yazoo Pale Ale on tap last night, though, which Tomato Head now carries (yea!), and it is excellent. It could use more hops, but that's true of almost all pale ales. Sierra Nevada is an exception, but it's getting hard to find on tap around here, for some reason.
If it wasn't so pricey...
We also loved the Reuben, all the pickled veggies, and the cashew pate, but the chili dog tasted like propane or gas, and the tab was steep for basically fancy lunch fare.
I'll try it again after they work some more of the kinks out and expand the menu.
restaurant
I've not been in yet, but there always seems to be a good crowd. Nice addition to neighborhood.
I shall have to try it...
I head down that way every few weeks or so for another doctor appointment. I will have to make time to stop in for lunch one day and try it out. I wish there were some vegetarian places out here near Halls. At least one grocery store with an extensive section for vegetarians would be nice. [/Sigh] Ah well, maybe someday...

Loved It
This place has a great vibe. Nothing like it in Knoxville. I went there for the first time last week. I had a pate plate. It might be just a little more than I would spend at a chain -- but I got alot of good healthly food.
If you like local restaurants and want them to thrive -- make a point of checking this one out.
question
Saw a place with a great name.
King Tut's Grill.
Anyone eaten there?
Is it good?

How in the world did you happen do be driving by King Tut's Grill? That drive is usually for us locals, unless sent to King Tut's Grill specifically.
I've never eaten there. Apparently, some have as commented here (Another popular restaurant...King Tut's would do very well downtown ) and reviewed here.
It's probably good to get someone here to do a follow-up to let us know if King Tut's is still recommended.

Sort of...I love Moe, and his wife, but...well, last time I was there it stank like bug spray and the food was just so so. Falafel hut has them beat by a mile on food.
Great place to have a b-day party though, with all of Moe's toys, signs and Karioke stuff.

didn't know felafel hut was still in business. not in the old location, at least. renee was one of the great spirits in town.
holyland, out on sutherland, has some great middle eastern food (via brooklyn) and is now doing catering. ali baba, way out on kingston pike, does a good job too. the baked chicken - marinated in olive oil and garlic - is excellent.

Last I checked (two months ago) Falafel hut is the same place its always been.

Also Ephesus
Love Holyland. They have the best falafel in town now that Rene is retired, but I've come to really like Ephesus on the strip across from Chili's. It's Middle Eastern with a Turkish flavor so they're more gyro than falafel, but their excellent baba gannoush is quite different from what you typically get around here, and their grape leaves are the best I've ever eaten.
You're a native South
You're a native South Knoxvillian and you've never been to King Tut's??
That's just wrong. Tut.
Hope they learn from mistakes
Went to Veg-O-Rama Saturday with an optimistic attitude. Loved its vibe and decor. Unfortunately, several disappointments. No wine. Solved that by sending hubby to downtown liquor store. He was back in no time. Great. Then they ran out of veggie burgers. Then they ran out of reubens. And chili. Waiter explained that "since it's Saturday and we aren't open for the next two days" they were running out of things. It was only 7:30. Surely there is a smart solution to this. Will give them another shot in a couple of weeks and hope they have figured it out. Would love to see them make it.
Veggies
Me and my sister ate there today for the very first time. I had the veggie burger and the coleslaw, she, the veggie burger and the potato salad. I thought the veggie burger was very good, good consistency, nice flavor. The slaw was great, had that balsamic flavor. My sister, at first, really seemed to be enjoying her burger, but not a vegeterian, suddenly could not fathom the texture. Would be more of an aquired taste for her. We plan to check it out again on a Wednesday night, we heard they have great specials on Wednesdays. She said that she will give it another try. She hopes to try the chili next. I think they need more dessert items.....
She might want to try...
the veggie hot dog with chili on it. It's pretty decent.
I liked the Reuben I got there. I just couldn't finish it all. Not their fault, just too much food for my tummy to handle.
