WATE has this report on a Knox Co. Young Republican forum featuring State Senate Republican hopefuls Campfield and Briggs.

Brian Hornback has the blow by blow...

I like how Campfield takes

I like how Campfield takes credit for improved school test scores and lower unemployment. Don't know about the former (other than it's the rate of improvement v. actual improvement, neither of which he had anything to do with), but I'm guessing he will never credit the role of Obama's stimulus in saving us from Great Depression 2.0.

Attracting top professors to Tennessee

"Briggs said we must attract the top professors to Tennessee to teach..." While not at UT myself, I've had a front row seat from which to watch recruiting efforts in one department over the last several years and I can tell Briggs that the bright red reputation of this state is a serious roadblock when it comes to recruiting the best and the brightest. One candidate who turned down an offer expressed concerns about the state's right wing politics and she was from Arizona where they had just passed legislation allowing businesses the right to refuse to provide services to gays (later vetoed by the governor). While it isn't possible to say politics is the deciding factor in a candidate's decision not to come I can say that many have expressed concerns about it. And those are just the ones who have agreed to interview here.

I also have a front row seat to the millennial generation and can say that many of the best and the brightest don't want to live in Tennessee either for the same reason.

Frankly

It's getting to the point where I question whether or not living here is worth it. I'm actively considering taking my retirement elsewhere.

I hear Ecuador is nice.

I hear Ecuador is nice.

So I hear.

But they speak English in Belize and New Hampshire.

There are alternatives to what's going on in this State

But apparently, it's better to promote Kentucky's; (link...)

Mary Wilson's picture

OK, Average, why not mention Cheri Siler?

She lives in the 7th Senate District, and I am promoting HER as Stacey's replacement. Too bad that 'forum' wasn't open to the public or broadcast LIVE! I wonder why Stacey didn't insist on that FREE PR as we know he lives for national exposure, like the times he was on FOX news, even challenged by MSNBC.
And apparently the questions from the YRs were not challenging at all...not one calling Stacey out for one single idiotic, insulting or hurtful 'comment', 'bills' he wrote' or 'positions' he spouts without one fact in any of it at all.
Cheri Siler is an excellent choice, and Stacey cancelled the only opportunity for her to debate him so far...sponsored by the UT College Dems and the UT Republicans. It is so very KOOL how she is totally ignored whenever Stacey is mentioned...like he won't win again, but it will be Briggs, a physician, who has not and will NOT challenge him, especially on any bill Campfield has issued that criminalized and hurt women, children, folks suffering from HIV/AIDS, nada.
And even Haslam's 'sort of endorsement' will not help the Doctor...because the voters in District 7 are fed up, sick and tired of Stacey's BS. GO, Cheri! You will make District 7 proud.

I'm down with that,

but I was talking about McKamey. Both need a bigger media presence. The commercials are writing themselves.

Mary Wilson's picture

Yes, PR is a problem, especially when the Media refuses to show.

We continue to advise all the media about our events. Our First Friday event here, on Friday, May 2nd, the BIG one, was announced in ALL local media. Not one showed up. John McKamey was there and spoke to the crowd for at least 10 minutes.
And
Last Friday John McKamey came to our headquarters and spoke about his passion and intent to do all he can to bring our public schools from LAST place to First place by hiring experienced teachers and former teachers WITH education experience and training to hold offices here, and in Nashville.
This appearance was advertised locally as well.
All his events are listed on his FB page, as are the appearances of our other great candidates, on FB, Twitter, and here when possible. This problem is typical here for our State and Federal candidates, but logical, considering who the GOP opponents are. But Nashville, Memphis, Chattanooga includes these political appearances routinely.

Brian Hornback's picture

Who is John Mckamey

and What is he running for?

Average Guy's picture

Governor,

and for the people.

I like the informative picon. What does he have to say about the meek? Help them if you're able or let them perish if they don't have the means?

And our questions are related.

Brian Hornback's picture

I will google

John Mckamey, I didn't realize anyone other than Gov. Haslam and Coon Rippy were running. All politicians run for the people, the problem is finding one that is truly of the people.

Here you go: Democratic

Uncontested Primaries

The media generally will not cover uncontested primaries in the primary cycle. If a Dem wants coverage in the primary, they should bring a few more candidates into the primary cycle.

Witness the "Who the hell is McWherter?" race in 2010. You know, the one that complete f**Ked ever Democrat down-ballot in county general elections across the state because MMW didn't want to go through a contested primary, the the party cleared the road for him. Stupid, stupid, stupid.
