The principal and an assistant principal of South-Doyle High School have been placed on administrative leave with pay for allegations they failed to perform their duties, according to a Knox County Schools spokeswoman.

What's going on at my old school? Anybody know?

Related to the handling of the threatening ROTC student?

Jamie S. article starts: "A federal judge is refusing to toss out a lawsuit by a former South-Doyle High School science teacher who says she was fired after reporting a student's detailed threats to carry out a mass shooting.

Emi Marie Ellison contends in a lawsuit filed in U.S. District Court school administrators did nothing to remove the student from class even as the student, identified only as a female member of the ROTC program and its rifle team, continued to detail plans for a mass shooting in January 2015 and fired her for voicing concerns and hiring a lawyer."

Could be. I had forgotten. At the time of that article I did think they treated the teacher poorly and did not handle the situation appropriately.

Is this more of a problem for KCS administration?

Perhaps......

But maybe not so much if they can shift the blame. There may be a pattern forming.

KNS saying that a teachers aide / assistant football coach resigned. Wonder it it's related?

Now we know...

They looked the other way?

The wife of a former South-Doyle High School assistant football coach was arrested on Thursday and charged with six counts of statutory rape and one count of exploiting a minor.

The DA’s Office also “reviewed the actions” of Justin McCarter, principal Tim Berry and assistant principal/athletic director/head football coach Clark Duncan, focusing on “their conduct in the aftermath of the allegations concerning” Kelsey McCarter.

Prosecutor said they looked into the trio since “this conduct related to state law requiring the immediate reporting of child sexual abuse to DCS of law enforcement officers.”

Interesting dilemma

Should Clark Duncan and Tim Berry be reinstated at South-Doyle High School? The DAG opted not to pursue criminal charges, but adults are required to report child abuse -- and school principals should be held to a higher standard. Balance this serious error in judgment against outstanding careers in public education. And then consider the possible gender double standard at play. I suspect both will be reinstated, but it's a tough call.

What is the timeline?

Is the issue that there was a delay or a cover-up?

If it was a delay, was it a result of attempting to gather all the facts before reporting the incident, or trying to decide whether to report it?

Was this situation consensual? Was the child over the age of consent? Situations like this can quickly become complicated and weird, and sometimes the effort to make the correct decision can seem to be an unreasonably long delay, in retrospect. It would seem that there are an awful lot of variables to be examined before one could determine if a good faith effort was being made to do the right thing and stay within compliance of the law.

I hope these guys get due process and are treated justly.

Consent

Since the charges against the lady were for statutory rape, it would seem obvious that the answers to your questions about consent would be a resounding "no."

One more thing......

Were they investigating a rumor, or something they had verified as fact?

Don't know

anything other than what's been in KNS. The DAG doesn't have shopper news on her email list for press releases (or her speed dial).
