WBIR reports: Tyler Harber, 34, would be the first person in the United States prosecuted for illegally coordinating federal election contributions, according to the government.

According to the article, federal prosecutors are seeking a sentence of 46 to 57 months. Harber's lawyers are trying to negotiate that down to 20 months. Either way, it looks like he's going to prison.

Curious that he's been singled out for such harsh treatment considering all the other, unchecked shady campaign finance dealings unleashed by Citizens United.

Harber's going to jail for lying to the FBI like Martha Stewart

The indictment and the Statement of Fact are all dressed up with federal election decorations, but Harber is going to jail for lying to the FBI when questioned about his relationship with Candidate 1, when questioned about campaigning for Candidate 1 (he was the campaign manager), when questioned about the involvement in Political Action Committee B (hell he set it up), and whether he understood the operation of Political Action Committee B (23 percent of the funds raised by Political Action Committee B benefitted Harber and his family per the Statement of Fact).

In my opinion, you can question the federal prosecution of this individual under federal election laws, but it appears he's going to jail for lying and stealing (using campaign money improperly).

Didn't see where Mike Ragsdale sent the federal judge a letter in support of his former employee either.

This guy

Has a severe medical condition and a 1 year old with a medical condition and he's going to jail for trying to illegally help someone get elected into a party that is trying their damnedest to keep people from getting affordable health care. Screw him, I hope he rots there.

I hope his child doesn't

I hope his child doesn't suffer.

As far as "doing their damndest,"democratic leaders, along with the GOP, seem intent on shipping American jobs overseas with their fast-track trade proposals.

This does seem to bring into question why he gets 2 years, and a multiple DUI convict gets 45 DAYS.

Dahlia's picture

This has nothing to do with

The TPP and until those jobs ARE actually shipped overseas, it's ridiculous to make the comparison to this as his party's #1 agenda is to derail affordable healthcare while he AND his child need it, along with millions others.

He probably still thinks he's

He probably still thinks he's following the best path to success in his field, in the mold of Karl Rove and Rove's mentor, Lee Atwater.

Harber is a product of Knox County politics, paying the price

for not recognizing that what you want to do might not be what you can legally do as the United States Government does enforce the federal election and political action committee laws, unlike the do nothing law enforcement from Randy Nichols office while Harber was Mike Ragsdale's wag during the early 2000's.

Look's like one of Harber's co-workers in the campaign called BS on some of his shenanigans and the U.S. Attorney took a look, send in the FBI, and Harber tried to spin the situation with the FBI and surprise, surprise, surprise, the FBI didn't buy the story, put the documents togather, sending Harber to jail for Bruce Pearl type truthfulness and improper use of restricted PAC money that cannot be used for specific candidate purposes.

Harber is a long way from the capability or recognition of an Atwater or Rove, he was peddling processes he knew best which were violative of federal campaign laws.

Atwater league in crimes only

Harber is a long way from the capability or recognition of an Atwater or Rove, he was peddling processes he knew best which were violative of federal campaign laws.

Sure, but he appears to have a similar regard for mere laws that stand in his way.

Tyler Barber sentenced to two years in federal prison. As far as I know, there's no parole in the federal system.
