City of Austin cancels SXSW:

“I’ve issued an order that effectively cancels South by Southwest,” [Austin mayor Steve] Adler said, referencing an emergency order put in place Friday over the coronavirus. The decision will almost certainly be a harsh blow to the city’s economy, as SXSW brings in hundreds of millions of dollars in tourism, ticket sales, and other revenue streams every year. Last year, the festival made $355.9 million for the city of Austin, SXSW said in November of last year.

In related news, Compass reported today that AC has been previously asked about the status of Big Ears. He said they are monitoring the situation and that people's safety is their number one concern. He said they have no plans to cancel the event at this time.

U.T.

While going over quarantine protocol for our house, my son mentioned that there was a positive test at UT.

Might be sooner rather than later for our community

Thankfully, we like tuna and have a big back yard. Looks like three weeks of secluded yard work could be in our future.

It’s hard to say how much credence should be given to word of mouth rumors.

Update: Just got an e-mail from UT. There has NOT been a positive Coronavirus test reported at UT as of 6:13 pm Friday March 6. Apparently ours was not the only household exposed to the rumor.
