SAN ANTONIO – Gov. Rick Perry has asked for 37,430 courses of anti-viral medicine from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention because of the swine flu outbreak.
The article also says there are reported cases in New York, California, and Kansas. The confirmed NYC cases involve students who recently visited Cancun, according to the AP.
According to Reuters, the WHO is monitoring the outbreak, which appears to have originated in Mexico. President Obama is scheduled to hold a briefing this afternoon.

It is akin to the saw of "privatize the profit, socialize the risk."
So GOP Goodhair now wants to be a socialist? Aren't rugged, self sufficient men like himself above begging for help from the evil federal government? Where's the old "whole 'nother country spirit"?
Has the curse of Karla Faye Tucker finally descended upon the governor's mansion? Stay tuned for breaking updates.

JWB seems to think that influenza can be stopped by a minuteman militia or other border security. Pretty neat idea. I wonder how a customs agent is expected to single out a virus?
After JWB comes up with a plan for that, maybe he could come up with other plans to put a stop to (1) international airline flights all over the world, (2) spring break trips, honeymoons, and church youth "mission" trips to Cancun, (3) cruises, (4) tourism in general, (5) business travel, (6) interstate trucking, (7) and, well, air.
For kicks and giggles, I guess he ought to get to work on that hermetically-sealed bubble to cover the continental U.S. (I feel bad about Alaska and Hawai'i, though. Can they get their own bubbles, too?)
But, how is the "small" government of the tea party folks supposed to accomplish all of this? Heck, the Alaska bubble alone will cost more than all the current bailouts, but it would employ a truckload of Palins. So, that would be a plus.
