I would strongly recommend that everyone who reads this blog go to the following website
and volunteer and/or contribute to Howard Dean's initiative to preserve the public option in Obama's health care reform proposal.
The "conservatives" will scream that any legislation including a public plan would be a back door to single-payer health care, and I believe that's exactly what it could be.
This is the only real chance I see for moving the US toward a sensible, universal health care system.

This past Tuesday, Sen.
This past Tuesday, Sen. Kerry entered into the official Congressional Record over 250,000 comments collected through MoveOn.org and Democracy for America (where Dean now works) supporting a single payer option.

So, the "conservatives will be "screaming" the truth? Those bastards!
hey
I like it!
And no "emergency room" health care either, like the Bushie health care plan.
"If ignorance is bliss, why aren't more people happy?"
That's one definition of a "gaffe"

This is how Michael Kinsley defines a "gaffe," when politicians accidentally blurt out the truth. A majority of Americans favor expansion of Medicare to cover everyone, so when the conservanazis rail against it, they further undermine their own position.
jcg We must support Dr Dean

We must support Dr Dean and his campaign for reform now. I just sent the organization $50.00 but any amount will help. Why? Because Frank Lutz is currently training the R's to scare the public away from single-payer health care with his usual verbal gymnastics. He's released a memo to the national party about framing the argument based on a poll identifying phrases that conjure DEATH by government health care. His poll actually asked respondents "Which two concepts would FRIGHTEN you the most?' regarding health care reform. Politicians on both sides of the aisle (R's and D's) and their insurance company donors could effectively shut down any potential for change in the current corrupt system if his scare tactics take hold in the public mind.
Check out the following article by Joe Conanson from Salon:
(link...)
We should keep a list of the number of times we hear TNRP's Robin Smith parrot the following scare- phrases: 'health-care by lobbyist', 'rationing health care' or one-size-fits-all health care. Every word straight out of Lutz's republican, bankrupt playbook.Anything to keep the insurance donors fat and happy.
This has worked many times before
These scare tactics have worked since the days of Truman, who first made the effort to get national health insurance. Who's to say it might not work again? That's how Luntz and the rest of the Republicans see it, and they might be right once again.
But it might be a little harder this time, with a strong majority of the public now in favor of Medicare for All.
