Saturday at 2:49 AM, SpaceX is scheduled to launch a Falcon 9 rocket to test manned space flight. The U.S. has not launched a manned spacecraft since the end of the space shuttle program nearly eight years ago. We've been dependent on Russia to "ferry crews to and from the International Space Station."

"The demonstration mission for NASA's Commercial Crew Program aims to send the capsule, with only a spacesuited test dummy on board, to the International Space Station for a five-day stay."

Apparently Boeing plans a similar test in April.
