When I saw WATE last night I finally knew why my house shook yesterday afternoon, the blasting over near 4th and Gill. No wonder the 4th and Gill residents are worried about damage. I'm on the other side of Braodway at least a mile from the site and felt it pretty strongly. Stacey

.24 inches
when they were blasting last fall for the Glenwood bridge, the seismograph they placed in the yard next door indicated that my BRICK house moved .24 inches. TDOT claims that is within acceptable limits. I think we ought to get a tow truck and go move some TDOT officials homes .24 inches and see how they feel.
Their blasting earlier this week at Cherry Street was more violent than the Thursday blast near Hall of Fame Drive, all the way over in ONK/4G.
Your Area Has a Lot to Worry About
You guys have plenty to worry about. No mention on the news of the shooting that took place on Jefferson Ave. at noon on Thursday 3/8 that blocked the street down and sent someone to the hospital. No mention on the news the shooter came back that same eveing and fired 20 more rounds into two houses. No mention about the recent break-ins and car windows being busted!! Now you've got to worry about your houses falling off their foundations due to consturction blasting. Gee, you guys should move to Turkey Creek!

I can't even afford the gas to drive to Turkey Creek, but when I hit the big time I want to live in the new downtown they are building around Northshore. Stacey

Move to Turkey Creek?
Yeah...I was a Farragut dweller once. I moved in just about the time of the Radio Shack execution murders then the Village Green home invasion but a little before Scott Loveday was murdered for less than $5 while standing at the corner of Kingston Pike and Lovell Road. I had left before the gun fight that broke out in a west Knoxville subdivision and before the dead body was found at The Pinnacle at Turkey Creek. In my 3 short years there, I was the victim of theft and random vandals...

I would reply with a list of murders, shootings and home robberies for your area, but I don't believe this blog would have the space. The difference between your east end and out west end is that violent crime isn't occurring on a daily basis. And yes, every now and again the east has enough gas to go west and committ crimes such as the Scott Loveday and the Radio Shack invasion. Too bad they didn't stay at their own end of town. Otherwise, West it a wonderful sunny place to be.

East vs. West????
Ah ShortStuff, you my friend are misinformed. According to representatives from KPD, Old North Knoxville was the safest of Knoxville's neighborhoods and fortunately, violent crime doesn't seem to be a problem in Fourth & Gill and from what I can see...it is just as sunny in Fourth & Gill as it is in Farragut plus I can walk or bike to symphony, opera, UT games, Market Square, etc. etc. I must admit that it isn't for everyone; some prefer the cookie cutter cluster of west Knoxville. It doesn't have to be "East vs. West" as you title your post; both can be great places. In my neighborhood, people pay to come see the uniqueness of houses at home tours...very telling.
