Does this seem odd to you? 'Cause there seem to be all kinds of odd ends sticking out of it to me...

Ragsdale explores sister city deal in Kosovo
Knox County Mayor Mike Ragsdale returned recently from an eight-day trip to Kosovo, where he traveled as president of the County Executives of America. The trip was funded by private companies interested in doing business in Kosovo, but mayoral spokeswoman Susanne Dupes said she could not identity those interests...

odd?

Hmm, our county executive was gone for 8 days - and nobody missed him. Our law director has been fired by the county commission - but we can't get rid of him. Our property tax appraisals have gone haywire - and nobody can explain them. And now we are looking to Kosovo for economic development!?? But "odd"? It's a sorry state of affairs, but it's come to this...um... snafu...

Wonder if the administrative assistant took time off or

was she paid by Knox County for that trip across the ocean?

I suspect that the reason our publicly paid county mayor spokesperson is not releasing the names of those who accompanied Rags to the Baltics is because they would be the subject of backlash in their respective communities for running with Ragsy and laughed at if they thought Rags was capable of delivering anything from a local standpoint to benefit anybody else.

Again, another local politician trying to play worldwide leader of the free world and a damn miserable failure on all accounts locally.

Let's see if the news sentinel bothers to drop a public records request on the county to see if the local taxpayers were paying any part of this fiasco.

Ragsdale Explores Balkanizing Knox County
Mayor wants to swap citizens from Balkans, but business "friends" may have other ideas

From APB reports. KNOXVILLE - Knox County Mayor Mike Ragsdale returned recently from an eight-day trip to Kosovo, where he explored a program of swapping Knox Countians for Kosovars.

"The people of Kosovo are warm, goodhearted folk," said Ragsdale. "I know, because I spent some time among their children, reading to them. I don't know what I was reading, because I don't speak Albanian. For that matter, I don't speak Serbian. I also don't speak Turkish, Romani, or Bosnian either. But they loved me anyway. One taxi driver even said he would send his son and daughter to Knox County to defend me, which was incredibly flattering. He did demand 500,000 Serbian dinars for the bodyguard service...

Word on the street is nobody from Knox County was on the trip

except for Ragsdale, his administrative assistant, a couple of guys from Sevier County (not Knox County) and some of his wags from Atlanta, Georgia.

Maybe instead of Knox County getting hoodooed on this Kosovo foolishness, they ought to let the citizens of the old country have a shot at Gatlinburg, Pigeon Forge, and Sevierville. Besides, Knoxville already has a sister city somewhere in Japan and step sisters in Memphis, Nashville, and Chattanooga.

Let's see if any of the expenses from this excursion end up on the Knox County P-card, they won't be hard to find. The ethics committee would like to see them as well.

Some valid points brought up here

Ragsdale won't say who paid for trip to Kosovo
(link...)

But as the commenters point out, if he was on the junket in an official capacity, shouldn't he say who was paying the tab?

In my opinion, he's lining up his next employer some how

If you asked Ragsdale's toties if the business is even located in Knox County, he'd have to say no, I suspect the business is actually located in Sevier County and Ragsdale, in my opinion, is using his role as county mayor to try and line up future employment in September 2010, since he (a) won't be Knox County mayor anymore (b) won't have a lot of job offers pouring in (c) Victor Ashe will be back in town looking for a gig to pay the light bill and the pompous ass expenses himself (d) the University of Tennessee will not be asking Ragsdale to be their next university president and (e) much to Ragsdale's chagrin, Billy Haslam will be the next governor of the State of Tennessee and Ragsdale will not be offered a cabinet level post and probably won't even be on the dias at the inauguration.

In my opinion, Ragsdale's over inflated ego and determination of self worth have destroyed his political career (he can't even go back and be president of the Knoxville Quarterback Club), destroyed his marriage, destroyed his credibility in Knox County, and possible set Knox County government back 10 years with the insider deals, arrogance connected to self worth, and made Knox County the laughing stock of the entire state of Tennessee.

Just ask Bill Lockett how funny things are these days.

Ragsdale Won't Say Who Wrote Lyrics for 'Kosovo'
Were song's verses lifted from Kosovo 3rd graders?

From APB reports. KNOXVILLE - Knox County Mayor Mike Ragsdale won't reveal who wrote the lyrics to "Kosovo," his ode to Eastern Europe, which was supposedly composed during his trip to the eponymous country. But when asked about the junket on Monday, he said, "It was written over there, and no one from the county had anything to do with it."

Before and after a meeting of the Halls Republican Club at the Mandarin House on Maynardville Highway, the mayor's answer gave rise to speculation that the lyrics may have been "inspired" by homework assignments the mayor saw while reading to a group of Kosovo 3rd graders...
