His rock steady beat was like a metronome that grounded the exuberant excesses of the band, if a metronome had swing and style.
Yep
It was fun to watch his unique style of lifting his right hand on the upbeat snare hit. I've never seen anyone else do that and originally thought it was an uncoordinated move. But I grew to love that about watching him and I think it contributed to his unique sound.
But yeah, he had the perfect blend of metronome and organic ebb and flow needed to lift the tunes.
