At tonight's Halls Republican Club, Lumpy Lambert made the case for appointing Democrat Sharon Cawood to replace her husband, the term-limited Mark Cawood, on County Commission.
Lumpy said the outcome of the 2008 Presidential election could hang in the balance. He said Republicans should not be power-grabbing and greedy, lest it reflect poorly on the party in the eyes of the less partisan.
East Tennessee looks to Knox County; the state looks to East Tennessee; and federal elections can be decided by Tennessee (a la Al Gore in 2000).
The Republicans didn't seem to be buying what Lumpy was selling.
I'm sure there's a case for appointing Sharon Cawood ... but it's not to make American safe from Hillary Clinton in '08. - s.

Didn't take long for "taking
Didn't take long for "taking back" to become "give and take," eh?
What a load of crap
Sandra,
What a load of crap. His motivation to get Sharon Cawood in Mark's seat is simply this... He and the Cawoods are very good friends. Period. He is also going to try to get some woman that used to live with him, that also worked in his campaign on the county commission as well. Van de Vate's statement about how they will choose replacements ("It would give anyone who is interested in serving in any of these offices the chance to present their background and qualifications to the commission and the public.") is a joke. This will be their cover to hire flunkies and friends.
I agree with one of the other posts I read. The people considered for replacements should be those who qualified to be on the ballot and got votes. No one else. If all these others who are now ass kissing to get one of the openings really wanted the jobs, they should have turned in a qualifying petition and campaigned.
Lamburt
Patricia is right. I've also heard that Lamburt's goals are to get Sharon Cawood and his treasurer out west (referenced above by Patricia) appointed and then try to parlay his votes on county appointments into a state house seat for himself in 8 years once he's term limited off.
Lamburt is getting power hungry, and that's not good. I'd wonder about anyone Lamburt aligns his support with because the indication would be backroom dealing was the reason for the support because Lamburt appears to be in it for himself.
Lamburt started out ok, but with the industrial park issue and now his power grab, I'm rethinking voting for him.
will the county clerk be a democrat??
if this is the road lumpy's going down..the county clerk's a democrat..therefore..lumpy's for a democrat for clerk.i don't know why he wouldn't just say "sharon would serve the district well..thats why i'm for her."
The Democrat for Democrat
The Democrat for Democrat bargain only applies to commission seats, I am told. Padgett is unlikely to be replaced by a Democrat.
i agree
i agree with what you have been reporting...that a democrat will not be appointed to the clerk's position(should never say never in this wacked out political gig)..but using lumpy's logic it means he would nominate a democrat for clerk...could be lumpy found out going for democrat aint popular with his base..so he got into the political spin zone & hit the wall..speaking of never say never,i didn't think it would happen but it sounds like the door is cracked for a special election
It appears that the "babies
It appears that the "babies and toddlers" are out of control.
Knox County Commission has always been a three ring circus unless you are a Knox County Citizen and know this is our leaders acting like toddlers just having their own way.
