The Knoxville News Sentinel covers the other side of the U.T. Faculty Club story. The article notes a decline in membership starting in the year 2000. When did Aramark take over? Coincidentally, the new addition that looks more like a church rec room and is missing the character and charm of the old house was built in 1999. (See previous posts here and here.)

KNOXVILLE (AP) -- There could be a legal fight brewing between the University of Tennessee administration and members of the University Club on the Knoxville campus.

Club members on Sunday authorized their board to take legal action to stop UT from closing the club.

The university wants to use the building, situated prominently at a campus entrance, as a welcome center.

Agricultural economics professor John Riley says about 200 members attended the meeting over the weekend and it appeared to him they voted unanimously to authorize a legal remedy.

The club used to known as the Faculty Club.

UT senior associate vice chancellor Jeff Maples says the University Club is basically a private club that doesn't generate enough revenue to cover its costs.
