Following up on Bizgrrl's interesting report about the U.T. Faculty Club meeting yesterday, I noticed something odd this morning. WBIR's report on the meeting somehow got completely changed on its way to their website.

Here's what WBIR broadcast yesterday on their 6 o'clock news:

ANCHOR (lead-in to interview of member David Harris): The decision was made without input of members, and that's something that's [sic] not everyone is happy about.

MEMBER DAVID HARRIS: The closure of the faculty club was a big surprise. I was surprised to find out that the University, without asking the membership of this club, could unilaterally shut it down.

Here's what their website says this morning:

Club members say they're upset because the plans were made without their impute [sic] or consent. But regardless, they want what's best for the university as a whole. "I respect any decision by the University if the goal of that decision is to try and improve the education of the students," said 13 year member David Harris. "Indirectly, that's the explanation that we're being given."

The website version gives an entirely different meaning to Mr. Harris's remarks. Did WBIR get a call from someone? Why the difference in the reports? Which version more accurately portrays the situation and the members' feelings about it? Are WBIR news reports reliable? If so, which version?

As Bizgrrl noted, there were plenty of other things discussed at the meeting that WBIR did not report. It's curious that they even showed up for what, on its surface, isn't that big of a story in the larger scheme of things. Or is it? What are they not telling us? Why did no other media show up? Why did WBIR report in such a a matter-of-fact manner that the closure is a done deal? Why did they report so little about the other side of the story? And why has what little they reported now been scrubbed from the online version of their report?

Curious, indeed.
