AN UPPER LEVEL LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM IS EXPECTED TO MOVE SOUTHEAST ACROSS THE TENNESSEE VALLEY AND SOUTHERN APPALACHIANS LATE FRIDAY NIGHT INTO SATURDAY. A LARGE AREA OF SNOW IS EXPECTED TO DEVELOP BEFORE DAYBREAK ON SATURDAY. A LIGHT TO MODERATE SNOW ACCUMULATION IS POSSIBLE BY SATURDAY AFTERNOON...MAINLY OVER THE HIGHER TERRAIN AREAS OF SOUTHWEST VIRGINIA...EAST TENNESSEE AND WESTERN NORTH CAROLINA. AT THIS TIME...3 TO 6 INCHES OF SNOW WILL BE POSSIBLE IN THE MOUNTAINS. LOCATIONS IN SOUTHWEST VIRGINIA...NORTHEAST TENNESSEE...AND EXTREME SOUTHWEST NORTH CAROLINA CAN EXPECT 1 TO 3 INCHES OF SNOW. PORTIONS OF THE TENNESSEE VALLEY COULD SEE UP TO 2 INCHES.

A WINTER STORM WATCH IS IN EFFECT FOR THE SMOKY MOUNTAINS AND THE NORTHEAST TENNESSEE MOUNTAINS.
