Public Safety Alert Updates

A credible threat to the MTSU campus has been identified. As a result, classes have been canceled, effective as of noon today, for the remainder of the week.

Due to a series of threatening e-mails and suspicious fires, campus police, in cooperation with local and state law-enforcement agencies, are actively involved in an investigation.

During this time, security will increase on campus, but university offices will maintain normal business hours. Employees are encouraged to report any unusual or suspicious activity to MTSU police.

After the regularly scheduled fall break, classes will resume Wednesday, Oct. 15.

More information will be provided on the MTSU home page, (link...), as details become available.

UPDATE: WBIR.com

One MTSU student is now facing charges of terrorism and arson after police fingered him as the lone suspect involved in a series of threats and arson at the campus over the past day-and-1/2, MTSU Police Chief Buddy Peaster confirmed.

I don't get it. They want to

I don't get it. They want to protect students, employees not so much.

That does strike me as a bit

That does strike me as a bit peculiar, too, but a few explanations I can think of (not that their necessarily good justifications). Note that this is pure speculation on my part.

  1. They've reduced the number of people on campus substantially, and its a lot easier to protect them
  2. The threats were directed at students and student buildings, not administrative offices
  3. The staff is composed of a more mature populace than the students, and are presumably less likely to do something stupid or foolish
  4. More cynincally, they don't want to give the staffers a paid holiday.

I did think of your first

I did think of your first two reasons. I do hope they are explaining this to employees and giving them the option to leave if they are scared.

The decent thing

The decent thing to do would be to put them on a "liberal leave" policy for the durations.

(So all the liberals can go home #rimshot#).

I just checked in with my

I just checked in with my daughter who attends MTSU.

She does not know any more that whats in the paper. Lexi has not seen anything that she thinks is suspiscious but her and her boyfriend are staying off campus and are leaving for Florida for the weekend to visit the boyfriends grandfather.

I am still sorta worried, but Lexi is a pretty smart young lady and she assured me that she was keeping her eyes open and taking the matter seriously. She then told me that years of playing RPG games with me at home is paying off. She always knows where the exit is and is pretty careful.

No Matter Where you go, There you Are!!!!
