The missing demographic is how Republican voters voted in the Democratic primaries. That would be telling ...

President Donald Trump said earlier this week that if Biden becomes the Democratic presidential nominee, he intends to make Burisma central to his campaign against the former vice president.

Time to support Joe Biden and

Not sure what this means?

Regardless, time to support Joe Biden and remove trump.

The Lincoln Project will one up him

The Lincoln Project is a group of well funded never Trumpers like George Conway and Rick Wilson. They have one and only one goal, and that is to defeat Trump. They have vowed if Trump makes Hunter Biden a campaign issue, they will go after the three Trump kids and Kushner and expose them for the grifters they are.

I agree, Randy. Time to coalesce around Biden and get rid of Trump. Time to bury our primary hatchets and come together in unity. We’ve got a job to do.

He missed the tag! He missed the tag!

There are no hard feelings or primary hatchets, as far as I'm concerned. We have to sell America on the idea that we can unify and lead. Joe and Bernie have shown they like each other and can work together. In my perfect world, the remainder of this primary will be about determining who is President and who is Chief of Staff. It's also about what policy will, and won't be installed.

Mostly, this election will probably be about handcuffing novacora (or whatever the hell they call it)-19 and getting the economy rolling.

And throw me in for three on getting rid of Trump as a first priority. Bernie has got to bring his voters in in November. That's where I'm coming from. I don't think we have to give up Bernie votes in November, regardless of who wins. Play it out.

Do you mean ironically voting

Do you mean ironically voting on the Dem ticket, or the Never Trumper vote ?

I do know some Trump folks who sent a smartass vote to Sanders.

I wouldnt pay any attention to what the NT crowd does if I were you folks. There are about 50 of them. They are just mad they had to cancel their power cruises.

They do infest the political pundit media landscape. Maybe that's why you think they matter.

They don't. Trump has 90+% GOP approval. Republicans love the guy. Take out term limits and they'd send him back for a 3rd. You know it's true.

What is an open primary?

In an open primary, any registered voter may participate in the primaries, regardless of political affiliation. However, voters must choose one party’s ballot.

So, my question is: who did Republicans vote for if they voted in the Democratic primary? Any numbers on that?

What is an open primary?

An open primary is like what we have here in TN where we are free to choose which primary to vote in.

who did Republicans vote for if they voted in the Democratic primary? Any numbers on that?

It's a secret ballot so we don't know exactly.

I suppose one could look at the results from deep red districts with an unusual # of D ballots.

Exactly. The county has published results in detail. Can anyone suggest two or three of the 'deep red' districts?

In Precinct 34 (Fountain

In Precinct 34 (Fountain City) where I work, we had 115 people voting in the R primary, and 257 in the D primary. That's 2.23:1 voting D, which is about the opposite of what we usually have. In the D primary, Biden got 91 votes, Bloomberg 29, Sanders 91, and Warren 36. So it very slightly favored the progressive candidates. How that would have differed if Republicans hadn't voted in the D primary is anyone's guess ...

Still trying to understand

Still trying to understand your point. There's crossover voting in every open primary state. The GOP was encouraging it, telling people to vote for Bernie.

But what does any of this have to do with Burisma?

Factchecker's picture

I think "socialism" is every

I think "socialism" is every bit as potentially perilous for Bernie as "Burisma" would be for Biden. "Her emails" was a trivial BS issue, but just shows the extent to which the GOP will go to swiftboat whoever the Dem nominee is. So we can't let that distract us in the Dem selection process.

I would strongly support anybody on the Dem ticket, including Bernie. I also usually cross over and vote on the other side in the primaries.

I think Putin has been supporting a network of bots, etc., like in 2016, to get Bernie as the nominee, because he's more extreme and will further polarize our country. This has been well documented. Putin, fortunately, is failing there, so far.

fischbobber's picture

Putin/Bernie

I think you're right and I suspect Bernie thinks you're right as well. I think he will work to consolidate his base to support the Democratic ticket though, and the Trump/Putin strategy will, hopefully blow up in their face.

That's assuming Trump makes it to November. He sounded awful over the radio tonight, short of breath and raspy, and the Brazilian politician he was all huggy, grabby over this weekend was hospitalized with coronavirus-19 today. Trump and Pence both fall into high risk categories and both are acting as if this pandemic is a hoax.

President Pelosi would have her hands full if the current Pres. and Vice miscalculated to a degree that would cost them more than their jobs.

Factchecker's picture

Putin/Bernie

I hope you're right about Bernie and his tribe coming around. While the world would be a better place without Trump, Pence, and much of the GOP in Congress, Pelosi herself is 79. No doubt she's more careful in her precautions, at least, which she was discussing today in her morning briefing.

michael kaplan's picture

"socialism"

It will be interesting to hear what the next series of bailouts are called.

Factchecker's picture

next bailouts

Agreed, it will be. But we can be confident they will be called anything but socialism.

It's especially unfortunate that a GOP stimulus will benefit those closer to the top and corporations who constitute the worst of unsustainability and neoliberalism.

from The Week

from The Week:

It's the rich and the powerful of Wall Street who benefit most directly from the Fed's willingness to act and go big. The central bank can prevent the financial system from coming apart, which is certainly a good thing. But it can do little for the average person's livelihood. Not only is that a galling and unjust situation, but, like all trickle-down strategies, its economic value is decidedly limited.

The Lincoln Project's Ad

I think this would have been better if they hadn't used a cutesy voice for "Ivanka". It makes it kinda cheesy and this is serious stuff. I hope they get feedback and do it differently for the next installment, but I'm glad they're doing this.
