For a few years I have followed a new medical technology called the Neuro-Spinal Scaffold™ and attempts to bring it to market. The "scaffold" is a small grain of rice sized polymer object that serves as sort of a lattice for spinal repair when placed in the injured area for spinal cord patients.

There look to be just over 60% of the patients have had some notable level of improvement

There are no drugs involved and there are 30+ clinical trial sites in the USA, Canada and the UK.

What is frustrating is the model we have of companies, investors, stock holders etc. controlling the progression of this sort of medical technology and delaying for years it being available to patients, or maybe not becoming available at all. This is the sort of thing government research money should go, and avoid the mess that occurs with the capitalistic securing capital, stockholders, CEO's etc. we have now.

The story of Invivo Theraputics and the NSS is an indictment of medical research being critically dependent on capitalism.
