Lulu's New Little Brother????

I got this photo in an email today from Lulu's former foster mom Susan. This little boy is in the same Clarksville shelter that captured Lulu and he is threatened with euthanasia as early as Tuesday if she can't find him a safe haven.

continued...

She writes:

"The director says Rotties are a liability to the county. The workers have fallen in love with this guy so they are desperate to save him, one young lady offered to pay his adoption fee and I have another donation to pay toward shots, neuter, etc."

Lulu was the first Rottweiler in eight years to survive this shelter and now I think she will be getting a little brother. I know I've lost what few marbles I had gathered up but I couldn't live with myself if I did nothing and let them kill this little boy.

He will be called Gino II.

They do know how to tug at our heart strings. Congrats if you do decide to adopt a little boy.

We've only had one dog and surely did spoil that dog as she did us. I sometimes wonder if there is room for a second in our house. I suppose you get used to it like the first.

In a lot of ways, two dogs are easier than one, because they entertain each other. More expensive, yes, but I think it's good for them to have a companion.

Yes, I have definitely thought of that aspect.

My experience has been double the mischief.

And, once again, I'll have to compete for a place to sleep.

I'm having second thoughts about the name. A spiritual friend tells me it's bad luck.

Just a Matter of Time Now

Just got a note from Susan with Southern States Rescued Rottweilers:

"I am working with the shelter's rescue group on settling how we will process the paper work, move him to a temp foster home and get him vetted. I will temp test him with one of my Rotties and hopefully get some more pictures ;)

You my friend will be one of the very few individuals that have been able to adopt not one but two Rotties from this shelter. Most do not get the option of adoption, even puppies are euthanized."

And his name will be Angus.

Angus is a good name. And I think you are in for double the love.

Update!

Good news and bad news.

Susan just wrote to tell me that, at least for now, I can't have Angus. The animal shelter performed a temperament test and the director refused to allow him to be adopted. He did, however, agree to transfer him to a Rottweiler rescue agency and SSRR found one in North Carolina with an available foster home. There he will be evaluated, trained, and eventually available for adoption.

It is still possible that I could someday adopt him but at least he is safe for now.

I just got an update on

I just got an update on Angus. He is now in a foster home with the Atlantic Rottweiler Rescue Foundation in North Carolina (ARRF) and his name is now Augustus. He is well except they have found a mass on his shoulder that needs to be removed surgically. ARRF has a web page for him here that has all the details. There is also a link for tax deductible donations to help pay for his surgery.

I like the name Angus better.

I like the name Angus better. Although Augustus sounds more regal. Wow, they sure did get him over his temperament problem quick. According to the website he is good with kids and other dogs.

I don't think he ever had a serious temperament problem. That first test was given by the shelter that captured him in Clarksville, the one that routinely euthanizes even Rottie puppies. I think you can reasonably expect any dog to be protective of his food when he has been recently taken from a situation where he was starving on the streets.

Southern States Rescued Rottweilers is now in the process of responding to another crisis, this one from Texas, where a ranch was raided and over 200 dogs were rescued. Most of them were Rottweilers.

They are working with the American Rottweiler Club (ARC) and the Houston SPCA to help with the Rotties. They are putting together a team to work adoption applications for 25-40 right now and have offered to take puppies under 6 months old, but there is a foster home issue. Sadly, they don't have many available.

UPDATE!

Just got a look at Angus' (Augustus') web page with ARRF.

He's been adopted. Somebody just got a brand new best friend.

How wonderful!

I didn't realize breed rescue adoption fees could be so high, $350. I suppose they want serious folks and it's cheaper than from a breeder.

redmondkr's picture

I was lucky. Lulu's adoption

I was lucky. Lulu's adoption fee was only $250 from Southern States Rescued Rottweilers. And it was tax-deductible since it was considered a donation.

They had spent at least that much on the poor girl's vet bills.
