UT basketball assistant resigns

I have not been following the unimpressive (to me) hire of Donnie Tyndall for UT Boy's basketball coach until recent news of NCAA investigations into his past activities came to light. The latest casualty has apparently been with Tyndall at two previous schools, both of which have had some NCAA troubles.

You should consider selling

You should consider selling it to the coach. Protip: If you want to go into coaching, immediately buy up all fire[insert name].com domains. Tyndall's failure to do so makes me question his judgment.

What I saw said there were

What I saw said there were two resignations, both for personal reasons. I'll see if I can track it down.

The other one was Tyndall's

The other one was Tyndall's personal assistant, who resigned on Nov. 10 for "family reasons."

It's a knoxnews govols story, but it's labeled breaking news, so it should be available at least for a while.

The problem is Handsome Dave Hart and this "panic" hire

These panic hires are always dicey at best and Hart did not do anything publicly to support Coach Cuonzo who became Coach Gonzo and Handsome Dave had nothing to sell, a bit out of sequence with Gonzo's late departure, and very few available coaches, particularly if you're going to roll the dice and try and pick an up and comer from the mid major ranks (I'm not sure Tyndall fits this definition, he couldn't even pronounce "VOLS" at his introductory press conference).

Hart didn't do his homework, didn't utilize a search committee, didn't vet the candidates through Ernie Grunfeld, Alan Houston, or our friends at Adidas or Nike (Hart said he played basketball, so he know how to hire a coach), so you get what you get and the people that could have helped Hart avoid mistakes in the process were never consulted. Bottom line, the mess starts at the top, not with assistant coaches and personal assistants.

I really like Cuonzo. It

I really like Cuonzo. It still ticks me off that he wasn't properly supported because he didn't have the out-sized personality of that cheat Pearl.

As for Tyndall, all I knew about him when he was that my friend who has been a prof at Southern Miss for 15 years or so said Tyndall was an upstanding guy who would get the fans involved. He seems a bit out of his element in the SEC, but people can rise above their expectations. One of my biggest beefs with him is he uses horrible English in his twitter feed. I'm reserving judgment on the NCAA stuff for now, as well as on his coaching.
