"I am saddened beyond measure to leave this chosen work that I hold dear, to leave my precious Adrian Burnett family and friends. I cannot, however, remain in a profession where children are treated as data measurements rather than tiny humans with real needs, and where teachers are treated with blatant disregard and disrespect."

Horrible

I demand a response from Dr. McIntyre.

Good luck with that. There

Good luck with that. There will be no response because he would rather have new teachers who won't or can't question his authority because they have been stripped of due process rights. I'm sure he is listening, though.

Especially if the teacher leaving...

...has maxed out on the salary schedule. Those are the teachers that admins like Dr. Mac most want to leave the profession.

And here is positive action we can take!

We have a so-over-qualified Democratic candidate who has the credentials, the grit and determination and the passion to run for GOVERNOR against the Haslam fortune, the Koch brothers dirty billions and he is in it to win. He has a history, in NE Tennessee of being an inspiring teacher for over 20 years, a coach of hundreds of kids, a County Commissioner, a County MAYOR, has served on the School Board and county community organizations. In fact, he is far more qualified to be A State Department of Education Director than Huffman. Y'all look him up. Google him. Go see and meet him next time he is near Knoxville. Haslam has lost millions of our Public Education dollars. And he squandered over $18 million from TennCare and refuses to accept the $3.3 billion to FIX his ridiculous 'economy'.
JOHN knows and understands why all our EXCELLENT teachers are leaving the careers they love.

VOTE for John McKamey for Governor! He will make you proud to be from Tennessee. "Leadership with a New Attitude."

His bonafides are known to the choir,

and choir is who's here.

Rasmussen has him down 30 points, but also shows he's the only other viable candidate. (link...)

I'd say McKamey's 27% is coming from Democrats simply because he's a Democrat.

There needs to be a much bigger push by the Party to get his name and positions out there. TV commercials, newspaper ads, digital ads, billboards, radio - he needs to be everywhere.

For McKamey, building a coalition that will help him turn this State's wrongs into rights would also be timely. I'd say announcing Gloria Johnson would head the DOE in his admistration would be a good start.

I suspect that there will be several of these this summer

And while the issues continue to simmer, Dr. Mac continues to plod along with that blank little gaze that he shows so regularly.

He wont' have to worry about coming to work one day and there be no students in the schools, but he will have to face the fact that the valuable teachers and the seamers of dreams have all gone to work somewhere else besides his school system. And that is a moral disgrace.

Durfees

Mark and Susan Durfee are great neighbors in Halls/Fountain City, and the loss of Susan will be felt at Adrian Burnett Elementary. Mark talked with me about the letter of concern a year ago -- one of the first teachers or family members to speak out. My advice to Susan: Fight. Run for the Legislature, county commission or the school board. Fight.

Good idea Sandra, if you talk

Good idea Sandra, if you talk to her before I do, have her call me!

Action is needed

All of you, teachers, parents, students, neighbors, and everyone else, you need to group together and fight these items. Write letters to your elected officials, protest, write letters to the media. There is strength in numbers. Make yourselves heard. Fight for the children!!!

We were a man down since February only 2 hour's a day overtime and ur expected to keep it as clean then after u have worked 18 hours overtime ur told oh there was a holiday last week ur gittin straight time that sucks part of why I left

These are sad days for public

These are sad days for public schools in Tennessee. It has nothing to do with students and staff. But it has to do with politics.

Deficient schools...

I realize that I am committing heretical blasphemy here, but:

Home schooling is the best answer. When we had one room schoolhouses and school marms (that is your mother in the school), the older kids taught the younger kids and everyone grew together, forming bonds across ages and intellect and family background. No school buses, no bullies, no administrators, no hogwash.

Min's picture

Nonsense.

Homeschooling is not a solution for the vast majority of parents, who have to work to support their families. And most parents recognize that they are not sufficiently qualified to teach their children through high school.

Those one-room schoolhouses didn't educate all students. My grandmother had to literally fight to keep her boys in the schoolhouse, because my grandfather wanted them working in the fields on the family farm. Other boys (and girls) weren't so lucky.

Those one room schoolhouses didn't educate students with special needs, at all. Those students were kept at home or institutionalized. And they didn't educate students of color very well.
