I have serious doubts about Democrats getting back any kind of control in the State House for the next few election cycles.

I think the problem with too many liberals is their acute lack of political imagination.

Let's see...we're going into a recession, possibly hard, no matter who won the presidency.

At the state level, House Republicans, who have long advocated leaner budgets knowing they wouldn't actually be responsible for them, now find themselves in the position of being in charge when the state may be in one of its worst economic downturns.

It's a little like being chosen as Captain of the Titanic right after it hits the iceberg.

The Democrats should be happy the Republicans will have to make a lot of the tough decisions, shouldn't they?

This & That

Democrats in Tn & Knox County didn't do too hot.

In how many states did McCain run ahead
of Bush? Not many & we were one of em.

Then lost the Tn State House..enough said.

In Knox County Obama, when all the votes are counted, will only be about 4 thousand ahead of Kerry's vote & maybe not that much.I had Obama with 10-15,000 more.

In '08 I don't think we won one county wide office..so winning the '10 at large county commission is dim.

Plus I'm not sure what will happen in '10 with respect to Democrats on county commission in the 2nd & 4th districts.

In the 2nd Amy or Mark will have to go & if they dont work something out a Republican could win.Finbar vs Ed will be a tough race

I'm VERY VERY pleased with Obama becoming president.Enjoyed the hell out of partying with the Democrats last night.

I loved it when Carter won & I loved it when Clinton won but not like I'm loving this one.

Last Call

I predicted 200K would turn-out in Knox County.The turn-out was 188,910 a record & beat the 2004 record by 9,293 votes.

I predicted Obama would get 83K.Obama got 70,203..4,282 more than Kerry.

I predicted McCain would get 115K.McCain got 112,999..2,346 more than Bush.

I predicted the 3rd party vote would be 2%..it was 1.53%.

Early vote was 66.4% of the total..in '04 it was 60.3%.

At the UT ward(10-S)the turn-out was 1,811 besting '04 by 427 votes.Obama won the ward with 52.87%.Kerry lost the ward in '04.The 3rd party candidates got 2.45% of the vote.

The Fort(10-N)turned out 2,086 besting '04 by 293 votes.Obama won the ward with 62.76%..Kerry got 56% in '04.The 3rd party candidates got 2.37% of the vote.

Final thoughts:

I thought I had nailed the 200K turn out when I saw the early vote totals.I knew Knox County voters dug early vote but I didn't think it would be 66% of the total.I was thinking more like 60%.

No complaints the '08 turn out did set a Knox County record.

I was disapointed in Obama's total vote.I really thought it would be between 80 & 85K it wasn't close.

The Knox County Republicans did a great job in a bad environment.Pushed McCain to 112K.

Both 10-S & 10-N wards did very well. Both had higher turn-out than '04(+720 votes combined).Flipped 10-S from Republican to Democrat & increased the Democratic vote in 10-N by 6.75%.And like always the 3rd parties did alot better in the 10th ward than anywhere else.

In conclusion:

PRESIDENT OBAMA!!!
