By studying 488 public airports in the United States, University of Colorado Denver School of Public Affairs researcher Serena Kim, PhD, found that 20% of them have adopted solar panels over the last decade.

"Community solar programs, which allow some utility customers to buy solar power instead of using traditional fossil fuel, are in place at airports in Tallahassee; Tampa, Fla.; and Austin, Texas, among others. At Kennedy International Airport, a planned solar array is expected to be the largest in New York State when it is completed next year. "

"Tallahassee International Airport has an 120-acre, 20-megawatt solar farm and a 330 acre solar farm producing 42 megawatts."

"Since 2008, Denver International Airport has become one of the largest solar projects in the U.S., installing 42,614 solar panels on a total of 56 acres. "

Then, there is the Chattanooga Metropolitan Airport, as mentioned here previously, in 2018 was about to be the first airfield in the U.S. run on 100-percent solar power.
