Out of the mouths of babes...

I made spaghetti and meatballs tonight, channeling my inner Tyler Florence, pan searing meatballs loaded with garlic, basil, and a little chili pepper, rolling them in Italian breadcrumbs and roasting them in the oven before adding them to a thick tomato and basil spaghetti sauce. Even the picky 10 year old kid ate with more enthusiasm than usual.

We're sitting around the kitchen table, watching CNN, eating. Sarah Palin's interview with Wolf Blitzer comes on...the one in which she brings up Ayers, again, criticizes Senators, comparing them unfavorably to the hard work of governating, but then talks about possibly becoming one in a special election...but she wouldn't dare appoint herself to Ted Stevens seat, 'cause that would be egotistical. Got all that straight?

The 10 year old: "Why is she still talking?"

The Mom and Dad: "That's a good question, son."

I have a five year old niece -- how do you feel about arranged marriages? ;-)

Palin exposed

The mister calls this Sarah Palin phenomenon "Northern Over Exposure".

I saw an ad that one of the network morning talk shows is going to have an interview with Ayers. That should be fun.

I made pot roast in the crock pot today. I seared the roast in garlic and olive oil, followed by browning an onion in the oil to get all that good flavor going. With some red potatoes, it all went into the pot with some red wine and bay leaves and simmered all day, carrots go in the last hour. This started before noon today and since I work at home, I have been savoring this aroma all day. There is a huge batch of leftovers to keep us going for several dinners.

y'know Becky, I think

y'know Becky,

I think turning this into a food blog makes much more sense than talking about scoobies, lumpys, and sarahs. btw, have you tried the squeeze tubes of herbs and garlic from the produce section? They last much longer and have a pretty balanced flavor. Not like the jars of minced garlic. I either use fresh cloves or the squeeze tubes anymore.

and on arranged marriages, MDB, the lad has an impulsive streak...let's not encourage that.

I was wondering if those were any good. Thanks for the tip!

I have another choice for my niece

But she's cute, bright (okay, I might be the teensiest bit biased here...) and she's got good liberal genes -- her Mom and Dad are both devoted Democrats, and her grandparents on my side are mugwumps, at least. (And to my absolute joy, she's showing signs she's going to turn out to be a geek, just like her Uncle. I've already tried to teach her the Philosopher's Drinking Song.)

Failing that, I've got another possibility for her. Keith Olberman ran a clip a year or two ago of a three year old boy who could say "Biww O'Weiwwy -- Wortht Perthon in the Wooorrrrrld!" So, if your little one is unavailable, I'll just find that kid.

hmm. what's she doing

hmm. what's she doing Saturday night? Sounds like a winner.

Every time my kid burps, he says, "that's not bad manners. that's good beer!" (a line he stole from his grandfather.)

I think she'll be busy being spoiled rotten by her grandmother.

Sarah Palin is God's gift to democrats

The more attention she gets, the more the GOP base embraces her, and the more stupid they all look.
We should do everything we can to keep her in the national spotlight.

How much loose change you got?

Petraeus is a lot like a Schwarzkopf, only without the swagger and love of the TV camera. The GOP would certainly love to run Petraeus in 2012, but he won't bite. Then there's the problem that he'll be wrapping up Iraq and Afghanistan on Obama's watch (if he can't get that done, all reason to speculate goes out the window). That means either splitting credit with the incumbent or attempting to create daylight between himself and Obama by either publicly criticizing him or disobeying orders (see MacArthur). That's neither Petreaus' style nor a winning strategy for the general (again, see MacArthur).

Assuming I'm wrong about Petreaus not having political ambitions, and assuming he's a Republican, his scenario for making a run at the POTUS would be 2016 following an Obama re-election, not 2012 against his former Commander in Chief.
