WBIR has an interesting report and map of county by county Tennessee presidential voting.
According to their report, "All but 11 of Tennessee's 95 counties voted at a higher percentage for John McCain in '08 than they did for Pres. Bush in '04."
Most surprising was Scott county, where unemployment is 13% and where both turnout and the margin of vote were higher for McCain than for Bush in 2004.
Joe the Plumber apparently spoke to these voters.

so we don't have to move to
so we don't have to move to Canada...(channeling KAG's opposition to progressives threatening to leave if their candidate doesn't win.)
we just have to move out of state.
It would be nice if it had
It would be nice if it had been Joe the Plumber that connected.
Unfortunately, I'm afraid it was more like "Jim-the-Crow" they were thinking about.
After Reconstruction, Tennessee led the way in enacting Jim Crow laws, being the first state to do so in 1881 by segregating railroad coaches.
It was Jim not Joe.
Case in point: I go out to
Case in point:
I go out to get my mail today, when kids in a pick up truck drive to the intersection that I live on yelling "F*** Obama! F*** Obama!"
Now, I'm assuming since I live in a part of West Hills that gets a lot of cut through traffic from north of Middle Brook and there around, that these little hairless apes imitating their mommies and daddies are not representative of my neighborhood, since my neighborhood had about as many Obama signs as McCain signs, and I didn't have anyone's sign in my yard.
Perhaps these young'uns will tone it down once they wind up at the State Pen, rather than Penn State.
Thats why I took off my
Thats why I took off my Obama car magnet today. I don't want my car trashed because of some pissed off McCain voter.

Trailer belt?
I wonder how that area maps with "american ancestry" as self-identified ancestry on the US census.
Looks like the "trailer belt" to me, but I'm making that term up.
Gary is probably right- it was Jim the Crow not Joe the Plumber who got these votes.

I like the new designator!
