...we'll be out at the polls around 6am to set up for the 6:30 opening. We have all the Observers set and our INCREDIBLE Vice-Chair has gone through and updated every list, every database, every little thing. We have two or three greeters at all times throughout the day, but we might send some of them over to the precinct staging house to call our friends and neighbors. Why? Because rumor is that upwards of 80% of our targeted voters have already voted. Crazy? Maybe. We have our runners who will take the names to the staging house, to remove them from the national database so we won't waste time calling asking them to vote.
...we work, they vote, we call, they vote, we knock, they vote.
If Obama voters have already voted early in NC, bad weather along the East Coast may favor Democrats today (in VA, too).

Rain, Rain, Stay Away...
The weather factor could be interesting especially as it relates to early voting. An interesting study I heard about over the weekend on NPR shows that bad weather usually favors Republicans. Of course, those studies didn't/couldn't take into account the effect of early voters.
The social researchers will be enjoying the data from this election for a generation or more. It's all quite fascinating.
Early voting
According to this, 74% of the total number of 2004 voters has already voted in 2008. So I guess it's not outside the realm of possibility that 80% of targeted voters have voted.

I'd rather be cycling.
I was calling NC voters
I was calling NC voters yesterday. About 15% were bad #s, and another 25% weren't home (I left messages). Out of the rest almost all said they were voting for Obama (he's evidently got pretty good GOTV lists). Roughly half had already voted and the rest said they were going today.
Just one bit of ancedotal evidence, but I thought I'd share it.
Calling was a very positive experience, even tho one McCain voter did hang up on me while I was in the middle of saying "thank you for your time."
