McCain's links to Terrorists: Does G. Gordon Liddy trump Ayers?
Submitted by sugarfatpie on Sun, 2008/10/05 - 2:43pm.
McCain has appeared on Liddy's radio show during the presidential campaign, including as recently as May.
During the segment, McCain praised Liddy's "adherence to the principles and philosophies that keep our nation great," said he was "proud" of Liddy, and said that "it's always a pleasure for me to come on your program."
During the 1990s, Liddy reportedly instructed his radio audience on multiple occasions on how to shoot Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms agents and also reportedly said he had named his shooting targets after Bill and Hillary Clinton.
Liddy has acknowledged preparing to kill someone during the Ellsberg break-in "if necessary"; plotting to murder journalist Jack Anderson; plotting with a "gangland figure" to murder Howard Hunt to stop him from cooperating with investigators; plotting to firebomb the Brookings Institution; and plotting to kidnap "leftist guerillas" at the 1972 Republican National Convention -- a plan he outlined to the Nixon administration using terminology borrowed from the Nazis. (The murder, firebombing, and kidnapping plots were never carried out; the break-ins were.)
So what do you all think? Who has been "paling around with terrorists?"
And then there's the question of who has been FUNDING terrorists. Link...
Carl H. Lindner Jr., the billionaire Cincinnati businessman, was CEO of Chiquita Brands International from 1984 to 2001, and remained on the company's board of directors until May 2002. Beginning under his tenure, Chiquita executives paid hundreds of thousands of dollars to the United Self-Defense Forces of Colombia (known by the Spanish acronym AUC), which is described by George Washington University's National Security Archive as an "illegal right-wing anti-guerrilla group tied to many of the country's most notorious civilian massacres."
Following a Justice Department indictment last year, Chiquita admitted to illegally funding the paramilitaries and agreed to pay a $25 million fine. Chiquita's payments to the AUC began in 1997 and lasted seven years; roughly half of the funds came after the group was designated a Foreign Terrorist Organization by the U.S. State Department in 2001.
Late last week, Lindner co-hosted a $25,000-per-person fundraiser for McCain and the Republican Party in the wealthy Indian Hills neighborhood of Cincinnati, Ohio. The event raised about $2 million; Lindner also serves on McCain's Ohio Victory Team.
I think Palin-McCain just opened up a nasty little can of worms.

They've got the state GOP saying Palin was a registered republican at the time her hubby joined.
But you do have a point. If she's going to sling shit re terrorism, some of it might hit her hubby.

I think this one is pretty easy to spin for the low info voters.
Just do a Tina Fey on them (throw their words back at them).
Obama or Biden should work "McCain pal's around with terrorists, like G.Gordon Liddy" into a statement or two. The beauty of that is that it refers back to McCain's original attack.
If they want to go back to the 60's and 70's, we can go there.
Then you have the whole "McCain's pal's fund terror" story to get into.
All of this is assuming of course that this smear sticks to Obama, which it might not, given the economic shit storm we're in.

if the repubs want to try the guilt by association strategy as judgement theory they appear to be trying...
I expect the dems to sling it right back at them...

Stalemate along the current trajectory (Obama 8 pts ahead and gaining).
So long as Obama counters McCain's smears with more than just "That's not true" you can expect McCain's attempts to change the subject to fail.
Otherwise you get a swiftboat scenario and McCain gets alot closer.
In this climate, you can count on the Dems to attack only when attacked. Otherwise they don't need to. But attack they will. Barack is no John Kerry.
I think Obama should take the high road. There's plenty of stuff to sling at McCain, and some of it will get out there, but it shouldn't come from Obama.
I'm sick enough listening to the "pals around with terrorists" tripe. I don't want to have to listen to it from my candidate too.

Obama's strategy of dealing with McBarbie's new "Let's turn the page on the economy" tactic is brilliant, IMO--
He's made "Turning the Page on the Economy" the issue, not the stupid, slimy attacks they're launching to try and change the subject.
He sure made them sound out of touch, desperate and dumb today when he spoke in Asheville. McC took the day off to rest and Barbie was in Nebraska --Nebraska! That's very, very bad news for the GOP that they're trying to shore up a House seat in Nebraska on October 5. And it's very, very good news for the Dems that Barack is campaigning in NC on October 5.
I think he's shown remarkable forebearance not to mention Kenneth Keating when the opposition brings up Rezko.
As far as Liddy goes, he has a talk show, so he must be legitimate. After all, the right wing noise machine would never allow someone disreputable to be a radio host.
And as for Chiquita, they're only terrorists if they're leftist and/or anti-American. They're freedom fighters, just like George Washington, otherwise.

But he's a patriot and a Murikin, not like those faggot lefty types who wanted to turn Times Square in to Red Square.
True happiness is knowing you are a hypocrite. -- Ivor Cutler
And Palin too! And for sure Todd could.
I wonder what McCain thinks of Liddy's stance on 9-11 as an "inside job".

I am still waiting on the MSM vetting of the Alaska Independent Party (AIP) and the Palins connection to the party.

.. now if the 'low information' voters who are still undecided could actually focus for more than 30 microseconds, they might digest such a response.
"Obama pals around with terrorists" is just so much closer to the brain stem.

the Keating 5 mess certainly is more relevant to our economic woes.

The Republicans just throw back at you Obama's links with so-and-so and so on. Everything sticks; nothing sticks. So where does this get us?

Liddy has spoken admiringly of Adolf Hitler.
